CLAT 2027: Apply by October 31; no age limit for UG/PG courses

The CLAT 2027 examination is scheduled for December 6, 2026, and candidates can apply online through the official portal, consortiumofnlus.ac.in, until October 31, 2026.

CLAT is a national-level entrance examination designed to provide a standardized assessment for admissions to UG and PG law programs. The removal of the age limit for both UG and PG programmes, a change implemented by the Consortium of NLUs in 2017, continues for the 2027 cycle, promoting diversity among law aspirants.

CLAT 2027 Important Dates and Application Process

Registrations for CLAT 2027 commenced on August 3, 2026, and will conclude on October 31, 2026. The examination is set for Sunday, December 6, 2026, from 2:00 P.M. to 4:00 P.M., with an extended duration until 4:40 P.M. for PwD candidates. The exam will be conducted in offline mode, and all applications must be submitted online.

Candidates are required to pay an application fee of INR 4,000. A reduced fee of INR 3,500 is applicable for candidates belonging to SC, ST, PwD, and BPL categories. Applicants must upload a recent passport-size photograph, signature, and relevant category certificates in PDF format with their online application.

Eligibility Criteria for Undergraduate Programmes

For the CLAT UG Programme 2027, there is no specified upper or lower age limit. Candidates must have cleared their Class 12 examination or an equivalent qualification. A minimum aggregate of 45% is required for candidates from General, OBC, PwD, NRI, PIO, and OCI categories. For SC and ST categories, the minimum aggregate mark is 40%.

Students who are appearing for their Class 12 board examinations in March/April 2027 are also eligible to apply for CLAT 2027. Indian Nationals, NRIs, PIO card holders, and OCI card holders are eligible to appear for the CLAT 2027 UG programmes, while Foreign Nationals are not eligible.

Eligibility Criteria for Postgraduate Programmes

Similar to the UG programme, there is no upper or lower age limit for CLAT PG 2027. Candidates must possess an LLB or an equivalent degree. For General, OBC, PwD, NRI, PIO, and OCI categories, a minimum aggregate of 50% in the qualifying degree is required. Candidates from SC and ST categories need a minimum aggregate of 45%.

Those appearing for the final year examination of their qualifying degree are also eligible to apply for CLAT PG. Such candidates must produce evidence of passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission.

Tie-Breaking Rules and Examination Details

If more than one candidate secures an equal number of marks in CLAT 2027, a specific tie-breaking procedure will be followed. The first criterion is higher marks in the Legal Aptitude section for UG candidates. If a tie persists, the candidate with a higher age will be given preference. Should the tie still remain, a computerized draw of lots will be conducted.

The CLAT examination has a duration of 120 minutes (2 hours). The exam assesses candidates in subjects including English, Current Affairs including General Knowledge, Legal Reasoning, Logical Reasoning, and Quantitative Techniques. Candidates are advised to regularly visit the official CLAT 2027 website for any updates and to refer to the e-brochures of respective NLUs for details on NRI/NRI Sponsored seats and other NLU-specific information.
