The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IIT Guwahati) released the Statistical and Performance Report for the Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) 2026 on September 24, 2026. This full report is now available on the official GATE 2026 website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in, providing detailed insights into candidate performance and examination statistics.

The release of this report follows the declaration of GATE 2026 results on March 19, 2026, and the subsequent availability of scorecards on March 27, 2026. The GATE scorecard remains valid for a period of three years from its release date, enabling candidates to pursue postgraduate admissions and various recruitment opportunities.
GATE 2026 Examination Timeline and Key Events
The GATE 2026 examination cycle saw several key events from its initial website launch to the final report release. The GATE 2026 website was launched on August 05, 2025, followed by the release of the Information Brochure, Two-Paper Combinations, and a Tentative List of Examination Cities on August 21, 2025. A new sectional paper, Energy Science (XE-I), was introduced in the Engineering Sciences (XE) paper on August 12, 2025.
The application portal went live on August 28, 2025, with registration opening on the same day. The regular registration period was extended until October 07, 2025, and registration with a late fee was extended to October 13, 2025. The application rectification window was also extended until November 10, 2025, and later reopened on November 18, 2025. Mock test links went live on November 12, 2025, and the paper schedule was released on November 17, 2025. The admit card, initially scheduled for January 01, 2026, was postponed and made available for download from the GOAPS Portal on January 13, 2026. Candidate response URLs, master question papers, and answer keys were uploaded on the GOAPS Portal on February 22, 2026, with challenges accepted from February 25 to February 28, 2026. Master Question Papers and Answer Keys were released on March 18, 2026.
All India Rank – 1 Candidates and Performance Highlights
The GATE 2026 results featured several candidates achieving All India Rank – 1 across various engineering disciplines and other subjects. Notable performances include Rahul Nehra securing 96.67 marks in Mechanical Engineering and Gaurav Kumar achieving 95.67 marks in Electronics and Communication Engineering. In Metallurgical Engineering, Aman Singh secured a perfect 100 marks.
Multiple candidates shared the top rank in certain disciplines, such as Civil Engineering (Amit Sihag and Sahil Nagal with 94.54 marks), Computer Science and Information Technology (Maninder with 92.57 marks), Petroleum Engineering (Prajwal Goswami and Mohammad Shehbaz Nazirbhai Shaikh with 69 marks), and Humanities and Social Sciences (Psychology) (Roshan Rajesh and Mansi with 73 marks). Cut-Off Marks and Candidate Participation
The GATE 2026 report also includes detailed cut-off marks for various disciplines across different categories. Computer Science and Information Technology (CS) saw the highest number of registered candidates at 259,922, with 211,020 appearing for the exam. Civil Engineering (CE) had 97,486 registered candidates and 76,385 appeared, while Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC) recorded 115,448 registered and 95,752 appeared candidates. The General category cut-off for Computer Science was 30 marks, for Civil Engineering it was 28.7 marks, and for Electronics and Communication Engineering it was 26.4 marks.
Disciplines like Metallurgical Engineering (MT), Ecology and Evolution (EY), Architecture and Planning (AR), Petroleum Engineering (PE), and Humanities and Social Sciences (Sociology) (XH-C6) had the highest General cut-off at 40 marks. Conversely, several disciplines, including Aerospace Engineering (AE), Agricultural Engineering (AG), Biomedical Engineering (BM), Chemical Engineering (CH), Chemistry (CY), and Geomatics Engineering (GE), had a General cut-off of 25 marks. Recruitment Opportunities Through GATE 2026 Scores
The GATE 2026 results will be utilised by several prominent Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) and government bodies for their recruitment processes. Engineers India Limited (EIL) will consider GATE 2026 results from Chemical Engineering (CH), Mechanical Engineering (ME), Civil Engineering (CE), and Electrical Engineering (EE) test papers. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and National Highways & Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) will both use Civil Engineering (CE) scores for recruitment.
Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) will recruit based on scores in Chemical Engineering (CH), Electrical Engineering (EE), Mechanical Engineering (ME), and Instrumentation Engineering (IN). The National Informatics Centre (NIC) will use scores from Computer Science (CS), Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC), and Data Science and Artificial Intelligence (DA) test papers. Odisha Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) will consider Electrical Engineering (EE) scores, while Nuclear Power Corporation of India Limited (NPCIL) will use GATE 2026 results from Civil Engineering (CE), Chemical Engineering (CH), Electronics and Communication Engineering (EC), Electrical Engineering (EE), Instrumentation Engineering (IN), and Mechanical Engineering (ME) for their recruitment drives.
