ICSE Toppers List Compilation and Expectations

While CISCE does not release an official list of toppers, an unofficial list is compiled based on feedback from top-performing students, school press releases, student self-reported scores, media reports, and coaching institute data. This list provides insights into academic excellence trends and helps students benchmark their performance.

Expected top scores for 2026 are projected to be between 99% and 99.8%. In 2025, the highest score recorded was approximately 99.6%. Education expert Anil Swarup noted, “The focus should not just be on toppers but on overall learning outcomes. However, topper data helps understand academic excellence trends.” Comparison with previous year trends indicates a slight increase in top scores and better rural representation in 2026 compared to 2025, attributed partly to the rise of digital learning platforms and NCERT-aligned study material.

Examination Structure and Grading System

For the ICSE Class 10 board exam 2026, students are required to secure 35% to pass. Subjects follow an 80:20 evaluation pattern, with 80 marks allocated for the external board exam and 20 marks for internal assessment. CISCE employs a 9-point grading system for external exams, while internal assessments are graded from A to E. Grades are allotted to students based on their total marks.

The ICSE grading system categorises performance from ‘Very Good’ to ‘Fail’, as detailed below:
