IOQM 2026 results and RMO cutoffs announced by MTAI; final merit list expected this month

The Mathematics Teachers’ Association, India (MTAI) has released the provisional scores and Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) cutoffs for the Indian Olympiad Qualifier in Mathematics (IOQM) 2026. Students can access their provisional scores and other relevant information on the official IOQM portal, ioqm.mtai.org.in. The final result and merit list for IOQM 2026 are expected to be declared later in October 2026.

The IOQM serves as the initial stage of the Indian Mathematical Olympiad program, with successful candidates progressing to the RMO. The IOQM 2026 exam was conducted on September 6, 2026, and its provisional scores were released on October 7, 2026. A window for pointing out inaccuracies in these scores was provided until October 9, 2026, 6:00 PM.

RMO 2026 Qualification Criteria and Cutoffs

The RMO cutoffs for IOQM 2026 were announced on October 22, 2026, by the MTAI. To be considered for RMO qualification, a student must achieve a minimum of 10 marks out of the total 100 marks in the IOQM exam. For Category A, which includes students from Classes 8-11, the top 200 students from each region qualify for the RMO. Also, five girls from Category A qualify for the RMO, beyond the general top 200.

For Category B, comprising Class 12 students, the top 40 students from each region are eligible to qualify for the RMO. The RMO 2026 exam is scheduled for November 15, 2026. Following this, the Indian National Mathematical Olympiad (INMO) 2027 is slated for January 17, 2027.

IOQM 2026 Provisional Scores and Certificates

Provisional scores for IOQM 2026 were released on October 7, 2026. Among the provisional results, Ayush Behera scored 93 marks, as reported by Physics Wallah students. Other high scorers from Physics Wallah included Jayant Dixit with 89 marks and Stavya Shukla with 84 marks. The IOQM exam carries a total of 100 marks.

Certificates for IOQM 2026 will be awarded to students who score at least 10% of the total marks. The cutoffs for national and regional certificates are expected to be announced in the days following October 22, 2026. On October 22, 2026, the MTAI also issued an announcement regarding malpractices observed during the examination.

Key Dates and Registration Process

The registration process for IOQM 2026 commenced on June 30, 2026, for individual students, with the deadline extended to July 27, 2026. Payments for enrollment could be made until July 29, 2026. Centre registration for the exam began on June 1, 2026, and concluded on June 26, 2026. The exam key and question papers were released on September 6, 2026, the same day the exam was conducted.

The IOQM syllabus is based on foundational school curriculum concepts, excluding Calculus and Statistics. The problems are designed to assess logical reasoning, creativity, and mathematical thinking. As stated by Ajeet Dubey, an IOQM Mentor and Mathematics Olympiad Teacher, “A student’s achievement becomes meaningful when the habits behind it continue beyond one examination.”
