The IOQM exam, the first stage of the Indian Mathematical Olympiad program, was conducted on September 6, 2026. The released cut-offs determine eligibility for the RMO exam, with shortlisted students now able to register for the next stage starting November 2, 2026.

IOQM to RMO Qualification Criteria AND Cut-Offs

To qualify for RMO 2026, students were required to score at least 10% of the total 100 marks and meet specific region-wise and category-wise selection quotas. The MTAI authorities prepared the list of shortlisted students based on these criteria for classes 8, 9, 10, 11, and 12. Category A includes students from classes 8, 9, 10, or 11, while Category B comprises students from class 12.

The top 200 students from Category A, including ties, qualified for RMO 2026, along with the top 40 students from Category B, including ties. In addition, five girl students from Category A, irrespective of their ranking within the top 200, qualified under a separate Girls’ quota. There is no such separate quota for Category B. National and regional certificate cutoffs are still pending.

Comparison with Previous Years AND Upcoming Registration

The difficulty level of the IOQM examination, the number of candidates, overall student performance, region-wise competition, category-wise criteria, and the number of candidates shortlisted for the next stage are factors that influence the IOQM cutoff. RMO cutoffs had shown a rapid increase in previous years before largely flattening in 2025, with a smaller movement anticipated for 2026.

For students who have qualified, registration for the Regional Mathematical Olympiad (RMO) will commence on November 2, 2026. The IOQM 2025 result was declared on October 15, 2025, following a process that included provisional scores, a score challenge window, and then a final merit list.
