The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has released the PhD Entrance Test admit card 2026 for the July session examination. The admit card was made available on September 25, 2026, on the official website, ignou-phd.samarth.edu.in. Candidates who successfully registered for the examination are eligible to download their hall tickets.

Downloading the IGNOU PhD Admit Card

To access their admit cards, applicants need to visit the official website, ignou-phd.samarth.edu.in, and enter their application number and password. The download link for the admit card has also been sent to the registered email IDs of the candidates. The admit card contains essential details such as the candidate’s name, photograph, exam date, exam centre address, and exam timings.

It is mandatory for all applicants to carry a printed or physical copy of their hall ticket on the day of the examination. Digital copies of the admit card are strictly prohibited, and candidates without a physical hall ticket will not be permitted to enter the examination hall. Along with the admit card, candidates must also carry a valid ID proof, such as a Driving License, Aadhar Card, or Passport.

Examination Guidelines and PhD Programme Details

Candidates are advised to reach their designated exam centre at least one hour before the scheduled examination time on October 11, 2026. This allows for necessary formalities and avoids last-minute complications. The PhD Programme at IGNOU is offered under two categories: Full-Time and Part-Time, and is in compliance with the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2022.

The minimum duration for the Ph.D. Programme is three years, while the maximum duration is six years. Women candidates and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) with 40% or more disability are granted an additional period of two years beyond the maximum duration. For candidates pursuing the Part-Time Ph.D. Programme, obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from their employer is mandatory. A minimum of 80% attendance in the Course Work, which is conducted at the IGNOU Headquarters in Maidan Garhi, New Delhi, during the first six months of admission, is also compulsory. IGNOU does not provide hostel facilities for PhD students.
