The Maharashtra State Common Entrance Test Cell (CET Cell) today, 19 October 2026, released the Maharashtra NEET PG Cutoff 2026. This cutoff is crucial for determining eligibility for admissions to MD, MS, PG Diploma, and CPS courses in government, municipal, private, and minority medical colleges across the state.
The NEET PG 2026 examination, which comprised 180 questions for a total of 720 marks, saw its results declared on September 24, 2026. The examination duration was 3 hours and 30 minutes (210 minutes), with a marking scheme of +4 for each correct answer, -1 for each incorrect answer, and 0 for unanswered questions. The NEET PG 2026 registration is likely to commence in the first week of April 2026.
Maharashtra NEET PG Admission Process and Seat Distribution
The State CET Cell is responsible for allotting Maharashtra’s state quota and private college postgraduate seats. The counselling process involves multiple CAP rounds, culminating in a stray vacancy round. Government seats adhere to Maharashtra’s reservation categories, including OPEN, OBC, SEBC, SC, ST, VJ, NT groups, and EWS, with additional provisions for in-service candidates, Persons with Disabilities (PwD), and orphans.
The NEET PG Maharashtra cutoff applies to 50% of government seats and all private and minority college seats within the state, primarily benefiting candidates with Maharashtra domicile. Candidates admitted to MD/MS courses in Maharashtra government colleges are typically subject to a mandatory one-year rural service bond, with a penalty for non-compliance.
Maharashtra is a preferred state for NEET PG aspirants due to its extensive network of government and private medical colleges, offering strong clinical exposure and a structured counselling process. The state has 32 Government Medical Colleges with 3,576 PG seats (MD/MS/PG Diploma) and 36 Private Medical Colleges with 2,498 PG seats (MD/MS/PG Diploma), bringing the total to 6,074 PG seats across 68 colleges.
Previous Year’s Cutoff Trends and Quotas
In the 2025 counselling cycle, Maharashtra NEET PG admissions were conducted under four distinct quotas: Government Quota, Management Quota, NRI Quota, and Minority Quota. An analysis of the 2025 data indicates that for 12 out of 15 branches, the closing rank in the Maharashtra Government Quota (OPEN) was higher than in 2024, suggesting an easier admission scenario for those specific branches.
MD Radio Diagnosis, a highly sought-after clinical branch, recorded the lowest closing rank (AIR 18,882) in the Government Quota (OPEN) among branches offered in five or more colleges in 2025. In contrast, MD Social & Preventive Medicine had the highest closing rank (AIR 2,29,938) in the Government Quota (OPEN) during the same year. The difference in closing ranks between quotas is significant, with MD Radio Diagnosis closing at AIR 18,882 in Government Quota and at AIR 1,66,896 in Management Quota in 2025.
In the 2025 counselling, candidates holding an MBBS degree from a foreign university were not eligible for Maharashtra admissions. The NEET PG branch-wise cut-off represents the minimum marks required to qualify for each MD, MS, and Diploma speciality across all government and private medical colleges in India. These cut-off marks fluctuate annually based on factors such as the number of candidates who appeared, the difficulty level of the examination, and seat availability.
