NEET PG 2026 counselling faces technical, administrative failures; doctors demand intervention

In short

  • The United Doctors Front (UDF) reported multiple complaints regarding the newly introduced Freeze/Float system in NEET PG 2026 counselling.
  • Candidates attempting to use an email address on the MCC counselling login dashboard received an 'out of storage space' error.
  • Official email addresses of NMC’s PGMEB have been non-functional since January 2025, with UDF escalating the issue in September 2026.
  • The NEET PG 2026 registration process is currently behind schedule, with official notifications from NBEMS still awaited.
  • This follows technical disruptions affecting 2,445 candidates during the NEET PG 2026 exam in Jaipur on August 30, 2026.

The United Doctors Front (UDF) today, October 27, 2026, called for immediate intervention from the Union Health Ministry, Medical Counselling Committee (MCC), and National Medical Commission (NMC) regarding alleged repeated administrative and technical failures affecting NEET PG 2026 counselling. These issues include problems with the newly introduced Freeze/Float system, non-functional grievance email addresses, and outdated contact details, impacting thousands of medical graduates across India.

The concerns raised by the UDF follow earlier technical disruptions during the NEET PG 2026 examination in Jaipur, which affected 2,445 candidates. The ongoing counselling process for NEET PG has historically faced administrative and legal challenges, consistently disrupting its schedule since 2019, with delays ranging from 28 to 135 days in previous years.

Concerns over Freeze/FLOAT System and Physical Reporting

The UDF has received multiple complaints from candidates regarding the newly introduced Freeze/Float system in NEET PG 2026 counselling. Despite MCC guidelines providing for online document verification for FLOAT candidates, several institutional nodal officers are reportedly asking students to physically report to their allotted colleges. The UDF release stated that some candidates have even had to explain the new rules to the officials responsible for implementing them.

Dr. Lakshya Mittal, National Chairperson of UDF, criticised the MCC, stating, “How can MCC introduce new counselling rules without ensuring that the officials responsible for implementing them are properly informed? Students are being forced to explain official guidelines to nodal officers themselves. This is a clear failure of coordination and administrative preparedness.” Dr. Mittal emphasised that before implementing any new policy, MCC must ensure proper training, clear communication, and uniform compliance across all participating institutions.

Non-Functional Grievance Channels and Outdated Contact Details

Candidates attempting to contact the MCC via an email address displayed on their counselling login dashboard have reported receiving an ‘out of storage space’ error message. The UDF highlighted that the MCC’s published Information Bulletin lists a different counselling email address than the one displayed in the login dashboard, raising questions about the operational relevance of the displayed address.

Dr. Rakesh Beniwal, Joint Secretary, UDF, stated, “We have documentary evidence that official PGMEB email addresses were unable to receive complaints as far back as January 2025. UDF formally brought this matter to the attention of NMC authorities in September 2026, yet the problem has remained unresolved. Now, candidates are encountering similar mailbox-full errors with an email address displayed on the MCC counselling portal.” He further added that these are not minor technical inconveniences but official grievance channels through which doctors and medical students seek help regarding their careers, training, and regulatory issues.

NEET PG 2026 Exam Disruptions and Counselling Delays

The NEET PG 2026 nationwide examination was held on August 30, 2026, with 2,73,096 registered candidates. Of these, 2,65,980 appeared across 1,111 centres, and 2,63,535 successfully completed the examination. However, 2,445 candidates at iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura in Jaipur were affected by technical disruptions attributed to an internal power supply breakdown under the management of M/s TCS Ltd, the testing delivery vendor. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) scheduled a re-examination for these affected candidates on September 5, 2026.

The NEET PG 2026 registration process is currently behind schedule, with official notifications from NBEMS still awaited. This delay could impact the release of admit cards, the examination itself, results, counselling, and admissions, potentially pushing back the commencement of the 2026-27 academic session. Andhra Pradesh has also declared 172 candidates ineligible for the 2026-27 State NEET PG counselling. In addition, NEET PG 2026 Round 3 counselling experienced a pause and subsequent revision of eligibility percentiles, clarified on January 13, 2026, following approval from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) in consultation with NMC to address vacant MD/MS seats.
