As of today, August 27, 2026, an official update regarding a Round 3 or mop-up round from the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) remains awaited on its official portal, mcc.nic.in.

This urgent appeal aims to provide opportunities to around 4,000 qualified candidates who are currently awaiting a further counselling opportunity after the completion of two rounds. The move highlights a critical need to utilise available super-speciality training positions that might otherwise go unfilled, impacting both medical education and healthcare service delivery.

The IMA Junior Doctors Network has specifically written to Union Health Minister J P Nadda, advocating for a third counselling round for NEET SS 2025. This request comes after the completion of two official counselling rounds, with the final result for Super Speciality Counselling 2025 Round 2 having been published in 2026. Notices for Round 2 of SS Counselling 2025 were dated August 5, 2026, indicating the recent conclusion of the process.

According to the IMA-JDN, while the NEET SS 2025 Prospectus/Counselling Scheme initially provided for two rounds, the current situation necessitates an additional round. The organisation stated, “The NEET-SS 2025 counselling has now completed two rounds. As per the NEET SS 2025 Prospectus/Counselling Scheme, two rounds have been provided for the counselling process. However, the situation arising after completion of Round 2 warrants consideration of an additional counselling round to utilise the Super-Speciality seats that may otherwise remain vacant.”

Quite a few super-speciality seats, reportedly around 1,700, remain vacant across various institutions after the conclusion of the first two counselling rounds. Concurrently, approximately 4,000 qualified candidates who appeared for the NEET SS 2025 examination are still hoping for an opportunity to secure a seat in their desired super-speciality courses.
