Odisha CHSE Class 12 science syllabus 2027 released: what changes for aspirants

The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE), Odisha, has released the Class 12 syllabus for the upcoming 2027 Higher Secondary examinations. This syllabus outlines the subjects, chapters, and assessment requirements for students across Science, Commerce, and Arts streams.

The CHSE Odisha Class 12 syllabus covers both theory and practical components, with English and MIL designated as compulsory subjects for all students. The Science stream specifically includes Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology, alongside prescribed electives.

Syllabus Rationalisation and Applicability

The Council of Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) implemented changes to the Plus 2 science syllabus and examination pattern starting from the academic session 2023-24. The syllabi for Physics, Chemistry, and Biology have been rationalized to align with the CBSE curriculum. This rationalized syllabus is applicable for regular students appearing in the Annual Higher Secondary Examination 2024 in these subjects.

For Mathematics, the rationalized syllabus is applicable to Class XI students admitted from the 2023-24 session. However, Class XII students from the 2023-24 session who will appear in the Annual Higher Secondary Examination 2024 in Mathematics will follow the old syllabus. All other subjects across science, arts, commerce, and vocational streams remain unchanged for the Annual Higher Secondary Examinations, 2024, as stated by the CHSE.

Changes in Examination Pattern

Significant changes have been introduced in the examination pattern for Class XII students appearing in the Annual Higher Secondary Examination 2024. The previous system of three Quarter-end Examinations has been replaced by two Internal Tests. The question patterns for these Internal Tests will be similar to those used in the Quarter-end Examinations conducted during the 2022-2023 session.

These Internal Tests will carry a 20% weightage in the overall assessment. The remaining 80% weightage will be allocated to the Annual or Instant Examination, encompassing both theory and practical components. Applicable CHSE subjects, particularly science subjects like Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, generally include practicals, projects, or internal assessments, with marks distribution varying by subject.

Subject-Specific Syllabus Details

The CHSE Odisha Class 12 Science syllabus includes detailed components for subjects such as Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology. The Physics syllabus covers specific topics and practicals, while the English syllabus addresses language, literature, and writing components. The Directorate of Higher Secondary Education, Govt. of Odisha, has outlined a split-up syllabus for Physics and Chemistry for Class XII in the document ‘Chse Syllabus 12th 2027’.

For Class 11, the syllabus includes Maths, Physics, Chemistry, and Biology. The Class 11 Chemistry 2020-21 syllabus includes topics such as Basic Concepts of Chemistry, States of Matter: Gases and Liquids, and Equilibrium. The Class 11 Biology 2021-22 syllabus covers units like Diversity in living world, Plant Physiology, and Animal Physiology.
