The Ministry of Labour and Employment has announced that applications for the Post-Matric Labour Welfare Scholarship 2026-27 are currently open on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Eligible students whose parents work in the beedi, cine, Iron Ore, Manganese Ore, Chrome Ore, Limestone and Dolomite (LSDM) mining sectors can apply for financial assistance until October 31, 2026.

This scholarship aims to support the education of children of eligible workers enrolled in recognised institutions across India. The financial assistance provided varies based on the student’s class or course, with benefits ranging from Rs 1,000 to Rs 25,000 per year.

Eligibility and Benefits

The Labour Welfare Scholarship is designed for students pursuing regular courses at government-recognised institutions in India, from Class 11 up to postgraduate or professional levels. Applicants must have successfully passed their previous qualifying examination on the first attempt to be considered for the scholarship.

A key eligibility criterion is that the applicant’s parent must have at least six months of continuous service as an eligible beedi, cine, or mine worker, which includes qualifying contract and manual workers. For beedi and cine workers, the monthly family income must not exceed Rs 10,000. Manual, unskilled, and clerical mine workers are eligible irrespective of their wages, while supervisory and managerial mine staff must meet a prescribed wage limit of below Rs 10,000 per month.

The scholarship amounts are transferred directly to beneficiaries through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), subject to eligibility and verification requirements. The annual scholarship amounts vary by course or class, as detailed below:

Application Process and Key Dates

To apply for the Post-Matric Labour Welfare Scholarship 2026-27, students must first complete a mandatory One Time Registration (OTR) process on the National Scholarship Portal using their Aadhaar card. After registration, applicants can log in, select the scheme titled ‘Financial Assistance for Education to the Wards of Beedi/Cine/IOMC/LSDM Workers – Post-Matric’, and proceed to fill in their details.

Required documents for the application include a worker identity card or mine worker registration details, the student’s Aadhaar card, an income certificate (if applicable), the previous qualifying examination marksheet, the current academic year’s fee receipt or bonafide certificate, and a bank passbook copy. Applicants are advised to review all entered details and uploaded documents before submitting their forms by the October 31, 2026 deadline. Institutions are responsible for completing the verification of submitted applications by November 15, 2026. The Pre-Matric application window for students in Classes 1 to 10 closed on August 31, 2026.
