SBI Clerk 2026 prelims begin today for 9,766 junior associate posts

The State Bank of India (SBI) today, 26 September 2026, began conducting the preliminary examination for its Clerk 2026 recruitment drive. The examination for Junior Associate (Customer Support & Sales) vacancies is scheduled for 26 and 27 September 2026 across various exam centres nationwide.

This recruitment drive, under Regular Recruitment (CRPD/CR/2026-27/17), aims to fill a total of 9,766 Junior Associate positions. The SBI received 13,01,367 applications for these vacancies, highlighting the continued demand for bank jobs in India.

SBI Clerk 2026 Examination Schedule and Vacancies

The SBI Clerk Prelims 2026 is an online Computer Based Test (CBT) carrying 100 marks. The examination is being conducted in four shifts on both 26 and 27 September 2026. Candidates were required to report to their respective exam centres at the allotted time for their shift.

The notification for these vacancies was released on 11 August 2026, with the application window closing on 31 August 2026. Admit cards for the preliminary examination were made available on 21 September 2026. The Mains examination is anticipated to be held on 23 November 2026, with Mains admit cards expected in November 2026.

Out of the total 9,766 vacancies, 7,680 are regular vacancies and 2,086 are backlog vacancies. The approximate salary for an SBI Clerk is Rs. 46,000 per month. Eligibility criteria for the Junior Associate position included a minimum age of 20 years and a maximum of 28 years as of 1 April 2026, along with a Bachelor’s degree from any recognised university as of 31 December 2026. Indian citizenship was also a requirement, with no specific restrictions on the number of attempts for the Clerk examination.

Securing a bank job remains a sought-after career option in India, with lakhs of aspirants appearing for various national-level examinations annually. Apart from the ongoing SBI Clerk examination, several other prominent bank exams have been conducted or are scheduled for 2026.

The SBI PO 2026 Prelims were held on 1 and 2 August 2026, with the Mains on 12 September 2026. The IBPS Clerk 2026 Prelims are scheduled for 10 and 11 October 2026, followed by the Mains on 27 December 2026. RBI Assistant 2026 Prelims took place on 11 April 2026, and Mains on 7 June 2026. The IDBI Junior Assistant Manager Recruitment 2026 online exam was conducted on 12 April 2026. SBI also has an ongoing engagement for Specialist Cadre Officers on a contract basis.
