Shillong Polytechnic publishes sixth merit list for 2026-27 diploma admissions

Shillong Polytechnic, a government technical institute in Meghalaya, has published its Sixth Merit List of selected candidates for admission to its three-year Diploma courses for the 2026-27 academic year. Concurrently, the Second List of selected candidates for hostel admission for the same academic year has also been released.

The current academic session for these diploma courses commenced on June 23, 2026, at 9:30 AM, following a detailed admission process that began in April 2026. These developments mark the progression of admissions for technical education in the state.

Admission Schedule and Key Dates

The admission process for the 2026-27 academic year at Shillong Polytechnic began with online applications opening on April 20, 2026, and closing on May 15, 2026. The provisional merit list of candidates was later published on May 26, 2026, with original document verification conducted on May 29, 2026.

Selected candidates from the Second Merit List were required to complete their enrollment and fee payment between June 17, 2026, and June 18, 2026, before 5:00 pm. The institution also noted the potential publication of a Third Merit List on June 19, 2026, if required.

Diploma Courses and Seat Intake

Shillong Polytechnic offers three-year Diploma courses across five engineering disciplines. These include Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, and Computer Science & Engineering. The institute has a maximum intake capacity of 60 seats for Civil Engineering, while the other four branches each have a maximum intake of 30 seats.

Admission to these institutions can be supported through national entrance exams, Common Entrance Tests (CETs), or institute-level entrance exams.

After 10th Diploma colleges in Meghalaya are categorized as government, private, and deemed institutions. Government colleges are generally associated with lower fees and potentially higher return on investment, while private colleges often provide more seat availability and modern infrastructure. Admission processes for government colleges frequently rely on national-level examinations, whereas private colleges may accept institutional entrance tests or lower JEE cutoffs.

Beyond diploma courses, Meghalaya hosts several other engineering institutions offering B.Tech programs. The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Meghalaya, a central government institute located in Shillong, has a total B.Tech fee of approximately ₹5.97 lakh over four years. Graduates from NIT Meghalaya have a median placement package of around ₹9.7 LPA, with the highest placement packages occasionally exceeding ₹46 LPA.

Other institutions in the state include North-Eastern Hill University (NEHU), Shillong, where the total program cost is approximately ₹40,000 to ₹50,000. CMJ University in Ri-Bhoi offers B.Tech programs with total fees ranging between ₹2.00 lakh and ₹2.45 lakh.
