TANCET 2026 Seat Matrix Released Before General Counselling: 15,082 MBA and 5,526 MCA Seats Announced
The Government College of Technology (GCT), Coimbatore, acting on behalf of the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE), Tamil Nadu, has officially published the preliminary college-wise seat matrix for TANCET 2026 admissions. Candidates who passed the Tamil Nadu Common Entrance Test can now view and download the official seat availability list from the state admission portal, tn-mbamca.com.
The seat matrix was compiled and released immediately after the conclusion of special in-person counselling for Differently Abled Persons (DAP). It presents a clear view of all vacant post-graduate seats across government colleges, university departments, government-aided institutions, and self-financing management institutes across Tamil Nadu for the 2026–27 academic year.
A grand total of 20,608 seats are available through centralized counselling. This includes 15,082 MBA seats distributed across 339 participating colleges and 5,526 MCA seats spread across 181 institutions.
Category-Wise Seat Distribution Under State Reservation
Seat allocation for TANCET admissions follows Tamil Nadu’s statutory 69% communal reservation framework. Seats are divided across seven social categories, ensuring that candidates are evaluated fairly within their respective rank pools:
| Reservation Category | Allocation % | MBA Seats | MCA Seats | Candidate Group Eligibility |
| Open Competition (OC) | 31.0% | 4,664 | 1,709 | Open to all merit-ranked candidates state-wide |
| Backward Classes (BC) | 26.5% | 4,000 | 1,465 | State-certified BC category applicants |
| Backward Class Muslims (BCM) | 3.5% | 529 | 193 | Sub-reservation allocation for BC Muslims |
| Most Backward Classes (MBC/DNC) | 20.0% | 3,018 | 1,107 | Most Backward & Denotified Communities |
| Scheduled Caste (SC) | 15.0% | 2,266 | 830 | General SC category applicants |
| SC Arunthathiyar (SCA) | 3.0% | 454 | 167 | Sub-reservation allocation for SC Arunthathiyar |
| Scheduled Tribes (ST) | 1.0% | 151 | 55 | Certified ST applicants |
| Total Seats Pool | 100% | 15,082 | 5,526 | Across 339 MBA & 181 MCA Colleges |
Note on Conversions: Unfilled seats under sub-categories like SCA do not go to waste. They are converted and transferred to the general SC candidate pool during dedicated offline conversion rounds later in August.
Top Colleges and Expected Admission Benchmarks
Leading institutions draw heavy competition during the first few hours of choice filling. Education analysts recommend checking previous year cutoffs alongside the newly released matrix:
-
College of Engineering, Guindy (CEG), Anna University: Remains the top choice statewide. Candidates typically need TANCET scores above 60–62 marks (98+ percentile) for OC seats.
-
PSG College of Technology, Coimbatore: Closes early for general categories, often requiring percentiles between 95 and 98.
-
SSN School of Management, Chennai: Highly sought after among private options, with typical score requirements ranging between 55 and 58 marks.
-
Thiagarajar School of Management (TSM), Madurai & GCT Coimbatore: Generally fill seats within the 85 to 90 percentile mark range.
Complete Counselling Roadmap & Key Dates
General counseling activities are moving quickly according to the schedule set by the admission authority:
Mandatory Documents for Campus Verification
Once the provisional allotment order is issued on August 5, candidates must report to their assigned college with their original certificates. Admission is strictly provisional until all original documents match the digital copies uploaded during registration.
Required documents include:
-

-
Class 10 (SSLC) Mark Sheet and Class 12 (HSC) Mark Sheet / Diploma Certificate
-
Consolidated Undergraduate Mark Sheet (or all individual semester mark sheets)
-

-
Transfer Certificate (TC) issued by the last attended institution
-
Permanent Community Certificate (digital e-Certificate or permanent smart card format)

Any discrepancies found between the physical certificates and digital uploads during verification can lead to immediate cancellation of the seat allotment. Remaining unallotted seats will be moved to the offline supplementary counselling round scheduled for August 7–8 at GCT Coimbatore.
