Curriculum Framework and New Additions

NCERT textbooks are prescribed as the primary study material for all subjects. The 2026-27 syllabus represents the complete, full syllabus as prescribed by NCERT and CBSE, unlike the reduced syllabi during the COVID years. The CBSE consistently refines its syllabus to be contemporary, skill-based, and competency-driven, aiming to prepare students for higher academic education or professional courses.

On top of the core subjects, CBSE has introduced four new skill subjects for Class 12 students: Land Transportation Associate, Electronics and Hardware, Physical Activity Trainer, and Design Thinking and Innovation. The Class 12 grading system will follow a 9-point scale. Students are also required to choose one subject from Informatics Practices, Computer Science, or Information Technology, alongside main subjects like Hindi (Core or Elective) and English (Core or Elective). The curriculum also includes internal work such as Health and Physical Education, Work Experience, and General Studies.
