Over 45 lakh students are projected to appear for the 2027 board examinations. The release of the date sheet is intended to assist students in preparing for both the board exams and competitive entrance examinations such as JEE Main and NEET.

The board conducts theory examinations in pen-and-paper mode. Students must carry their printed CBSE Roll Number / Admit Card along with their official School ID Card. Only blue/black ballpoint pens, pencils, erasers, and transparent water bottles are permitted. Electronic devices, mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators, Bluetooth devices, notes, and textual materials are strictly banned.

Changes in Examination Pattern and Passing Criteria

For the 2027 examinations, CBSE has published sample papers for both Class 10 and Class 12. A significant shift in the question paper pattern includes 50% competency-based questions, focusing on real-world case studies, scenario analyses, data interpretation, and problem-solving. Constructed response questions (traditional short & long-answer descriptive questions) will account for 30% of the paper, while objective/multiple-choice questions will make up 20%.

Question Category Weightage Key Focus
Competency-Based Questions 50% Real-world case studies, scenario analyses, data interpretation, problem-solving
Constructed Response Questions 30% Traditional short & long-answer descriptive questions, reduced emphasis
Objective / Multiple Choice 20% Direct concept-checking MCQs, assertion-reasoning, fill-in items

Several major Class 10 subjects carry 80 marks for theory and 20 marks for practical examination or internal assessment. Students need to score at least 33% marks in each subject to be declared successful. For Class 10, the grading system follows a nine-point structure from A-1 to E, with a D grade equivalent to 33% overall being the minimum passing grade.

New Dual-Examination Pathway for Class 10 and Attendance Requirements

Class 10 students will have a dual-examination pathway for 2027. This includes a compulsory primary board examination in February, March 2027 and an optional second exam in May 2027 for up to three subjects. This expansion of the dual-examination pathway is aimed at easing high-stakes exam pressure, aligning with National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 recommendations.

A minimum of 75% cumulative classroom attendance is required for students to be eligible for hall tickets, except in documented medical emergencies. CBSE has also directed affiliated schools to run strict pre-validation checks before submitting the List of Candidates (LOC) for Classes 10 and 12, and enrollment forms for Classes 9 and 11. The board issued notices dated 7 October 2026 regarding examination forms for private candidates and a reminder dated 9 October 2026 about submitting accurate LOC details for Classes 10 and 12.

Accessing the Date Sheet and Preparation

Once released, the official date sheet will be available on the CBSE websites: cbse.gov.in and cbseacademic.nic.in. Students are advised to regularly check these portals for updates. The board typically releases a tentative schedule first, followed by the finalised subject-wise PDF. In 2026, the final CBSE date sheet was issued on 30 October. The board has started processing pre-exam data and “flying slips” across all 24 regional directorates to smooth out roll number allocation.

Students should download and save the PDF file of the date sheet for quick offline reference and take a clear printout to pin near their study area. Before their school submits the LOC, students should verify that their name, parents’ names, date of birth, and subject codes on their school records exactly match their official ID documents.
