UP TGT 2026: Apply by Nov 23; exam Dec 23-24

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj, has commenced the registration process for the recruitment of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGTs) in non-government aided secondary schools across Uttar Pradesh. The official notification, Advertisement No. 07/2026, was released on 23 October 2026, marking the start of applications for 17,735 Assistant Teacher (Trained Graduate Grade) posts.

This recruitment drive, which began accepting applications on 24 October 2026, aims to fill a substantial number of teaching positions, with 16,193 vacancies designated for boys’ schools and 1,542 for girls’ schools. The written examination for these posts is slated for 23 and 24 December 2026, according to the UPESSC.

Application and Examination Schedule

The application window for UP TGT 2026 opened on 24 October 2026, using a One Time Registration (OTR)-based online application system. Prospective candidates have until 23 November 2026 to deposit the application fee. Following this, a brief window for application corrections will be available, with a deadline of 26 November 2026.

The written examination, a crucial component of the selection process, is scheduled to take place on 23 and 24 December 2026. The exam will be an objective-type test comprising 120 questions, carrying a total of 360 marks, and will have a duration of 2 hours. The overall selection process for UP TGT will be based on this written test and subsequent document verification.

Vacancy Details and Eligibility

A total of 17,735 Assistant Teacher (Trained Graduate Grade) vacancies have been announced across various subjects. Of these, 16,193 positions are for boys’ schools and 1,542 for girls’ schools. The pay scale for selected UP TGT teachers will be Level 7, ranging from ₹44,900 to ₹1,42,400.

Candidates applying for these positions must possess a valid certificate demonstrating they have passed the prescribed educational eligibility test by 30 June 2027. The written exam itself is weighted for 500 marks in the overall selection process.

Context and Commission’s Mandate

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) was established under the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission Act, 2023, which was notified on 21 August 2023. The rules governing the commission were then published on 13 December 2023. The commission is tasked with the selection of various educational personnel, including Principals, Vice-Principals, Head Teachers, Assistant Professors, Lecturers (PGTs), Assistant Teachers, and Instructors.

The Chairman of UPESSC has emphasized a commitment to transparency and merit-based selection. In a statement, the Chairman said, “After taking charge as the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission, my topmost priority is to ensure a fully transparent and merit-based selection process in line with the government’s policies, with zero tolerance without any compromise on integrity. While advancing recruitments in a time-bound manner, we will further strengthen technology-based processes, so that every eligible candidate gets their rightful opportunity.”

Separate PGT Recruitment Underway

Besides the TGT recruitment, the UPESSC is also conducting a separate recruitment drive for Post Graduate Teachers (PGT) for 2,607 posts. The application process for the UP PGT Teacher Correction/Edit Form 2026 began on 18 September 2026, with the registration and fee payment deadline on 17 October 2026. Corrections for PGT applications were allowed until 21 October 2026. The examination for UP PGT Teacher posts is scheduled for 15 and 16 December 2026. The minimum age for UP PGT Teacher applicants is 21 years, and the maximum age is 62 years as of 01 July 2026.
