Theory Exam Grading Scale

To pass the theory paper, a student must secure at least a ‘D’ grade. Grades E1 and E2 indicate a failing status.

Range of Marks Grade Awarded Grade Point

81 – 90 A2 9
71 – 80 B1 8
61 – 70 B2 7
51 – 60 C1 6
41 – 50 C2 5
33 – 40 D (Passing Grade) 4
21 – 32 E1 —
Less than 21 E2 —

Practical Exam Grading Scale

Practical exams carry a weightage of 30 marks for most science and vocational subjects.

  • Grade A: 80% – 100%

  • Grade B: 60% – 79%

  • Grade C: 45% – 59%

  • Grade D: 33% – 44% (Minimum Pass)

  • Grade E: Below 33% (Fail)

What are the Passing Marks for UP Board 12th?

To be declared “Pass” in the UP Board 12th Result 2026, students must fulfill the following:

  1. Subject-wise Requirement: Secure at least 33% marks in every subject (Theory and Practical separately where applicable).

  2. Aggregate Requirement: An overall score of 33% across all five subjects is mandatory.

  3. Mandatory Pass in Hindi: It is crucial to pass the Hindi paper; failing in Hindi usually results in a “Fail” status for the entire year, regardless of other scores.

Note: If a student fails in one subject (other than Hindi), they may be eligible for the Compartment Exam held in June/July to save their academic year.
