The Bar Council of India (BCI) is set to close the registration for the All India Bar Examination (AIBE XXI) very soon. Aspiring advocates who wish to obtain their Certificate of Practice (CoP) must complete their applications on the official portal, allindiabarexamination.com, before the deadline.

For many, this exam is the final hurdle between being a law graduate and a legally recognized practicing advocate. Whether you are a fresh graduate or a final-year student, missing this window could delay your career by months.

The exam will be held in offline (pen-and-paper) mode across various centers in India. It consists of 100 multiple-choice questions covering 19 law subjects, and notably, there is no negative marking.

How to Fill the AIBE XXI Form?

Step 1: Registration

Visit the official website and click on the “Register” link. You will need to provide basic details like your name, mobile number, and email address. You also need your State Bar Council Enrollment Number.

Step 2: Filling the Application

Log in with the credentials sent to your email. Enter your personal details, permanent address, and educational qualifications (10th, 12th, and LLB details). You will also need to select three preferred exam cities and your question paper language (available in 11 languages).

Step 3: Document Upload

You must upload scanned copies of the following:

  • Passport-size photograph

  • Signature

  • Enrollment Certificate (Self-attested)

  • Photo ID proof (Aadhaar, Voter ID, etc.)

  • LLB Marksheets/Degree (Final year students must upload an undertaking)

Step 4: Fee Payment

The final step is paying the registration fee via the online gateway.

  • General/OBC/EWS: ₹3,560 (including bank charges)

  • SC/ST/PwBD: ₹2,560 (including bank charges)

Eligibility Criteria: Who Can Apply?

The BCI has simplified the rules for AIBE 21. You are eligible if:

  1. You hold a 3-year or 5-year LLB degree from a BCI-recognized university.

  2. You are enrolled with a State Bar Council.

  3. New Update: Final-year students with no backlogs from previous semesters are also permitted to sit for the exam.

There is no age limit for the AIBE, and you can attempt the exam as many times as needed to pass.

Why Is AIBE XXI Important?

Passing the AIBE is mandatory for all law graduates who graduated from 2010 onwards. Once you clear the exam, you receive the Certificate of Practice, which grants you the “Right to Audience” to represent clients in any court or tribunal in India. Furthermore, many states now require an AIBE qualification as a prerequisite for appearing in Judicial Service Examinations.
