Bihar BPSC Exams Postponed to Ensure Single-Test Format; Registration for TRE 4.0 from September 21

Bihar Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari announced on September 2, 2026, the postponement of upcoming Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) examinations. This decision aims to establish a unified single-test pattern for all BPSC exams, with revised registration for BPSC TRE 4.0 set to begin on September 21 at bpsc.bih.nic.in.

The postponement comes after direct intervention from the state leadership, including Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary, in response to significant student demands and protests over alleged irregularities in previous BPSC examinations. The BPSC requires additional time for preparations due to the high number of candidates expected to appear.

Bihar BPSC Exams 2026: Rationale for Postponement

Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari confirmed that the decision to shift from a two-exam format to a single, unified test was a direct result of the Chief Minister’s intervention following widespread student demands. Tiwari emphasized the need for adequate preparation time, stating, “No one should rush this process; if we want an exam that is transparent and free of irregularities, the BPSC must be given adequate time.” He further added that the BPSC is making full preparations and will announce new dates once these preparations are complete, acknowledging the very high number of candidates.

Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary also affirmed the government’s commitment to student demands, announcing that the TRE-4 examination will now be conducted in a single phase, alongside nine other important decisions. This move is intended to make easier the examination process and address concerns about fairness and transparency.

Protests and Demands for Examination Reforms

The postponement follows significant protests staged by members of the Azad Samaj Party (Kanshiram) and the Bhim Army at Gandhi Maidan in Patna earlier on Saturday. Protesters alleged rampant corruption and irregularities in the BPSC examination process, demanding the immediate dismissal of the BPSC Chairman, the constitution of an inquiry committee, and a halt to the training of currently selected candidates.

Police deployed water cannons to disperse students who were marching towards Raj Bhavan and the Chief Minister’s residence to voice their grievances. One protester highlighted a perceived bias favoring the wealthy over the poor, alleging rigged results and demanding the resignation of the Education Minister. Another protester stated, “This march will proceed to the Raj Bhavan; we will not leave until the exam process is revoked.”

Special Expert Committee on Examination Reforms

In a significant step towards addressing these concerns, the state government has constituted a ‘Special Expert Committee on Examination Reforms’. This committee, chaired by a judge of the Patna High Court, is tasked with providing recommendations for improvements across various examinations. Also, it will serve as a platform to hear and address student complaints related to examination processes, as confirmed by Samrat Choudhary.

The Bihar Education Department has also decided to initiate action soon for librarian recruitment, aligning with existing vacancies. This indicates a broader effort to address various aspects of the state’s education sector.
