BPT 2026: Apply March-April for admissions; NEET not mandatory

Candidates aspiring to pursue a Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) degree for the 2026 academic session can anticipate the application window to open tentatively between March and April 2026. The BPT program, a 4.5-year undergraduate course, includes four years of academic study followed by a mandatory six-month clinical internship.

This year’s admission process will primarily consider merit, CUET UG scores, or university-specific entrance tests, as the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is not a mandatory requirement for BPT admissions in 2026. The course is offered by institutions affiliated with authorities such as the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, UGC, and NAAC.

Eligibility and Admission Process for BPT 2026

To be eligible for BPT admission, candidates must have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as core subjects. A minimum aggregate of 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, and Biology (PCB) in Class 12 is generally required. For government quota seats in Karnataka, state students need a minimum of 40% in PCB in their 10+2 exam, with merit ranking based solely on PCB percentages.

The admission process for BPT in 2026 will involve several stages, beginning with applications opening in March or April. Entrance examinations, such as CUET UG, are tentatively scheduled for May 11 – 31, 2026. Following this, merit lists and counselling are expected in June – July, with final admissions concluding by July – August 2026.

Fee Structure and Seat Distribution

The annual fee structure for BPT courses across India can vary significantly, ranging from INR 50,000 to INR 3,00,000. For instance, the approximate BPT fees per year at Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, are INR 13,483, while SRM College of Rehabilitation Sciences (SRMCRI), Chennai, charges around INR 1,25,000 per year. In Karnataka, the last year’s government fees for BPT were Rs. 8250/- per year.

In Karnataka, 20% of seats in physiotherapy colleges affiliated with Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences and state private universities are reserved for Government Quota seats. There are nearly 90 colleges affiliated with RGUHS in Karnataka, including two government colleges: Bangalore Medical College, Department of Physiotherapy, Bangalore, and Sanjay Gandhi Institute of Trauma and Orthopedic, Department of Physiotherapy, Bangalore.

Career Prospects and Further Education

The BPT curriculum is designed to train students in anatomy, physiology, biomechanics, therapeutic techniques, rehabilitation, and patient care. Graduates can pursue careers in various settings, including hospitals, sports clinics, rehabilitation centers, or private practice. The average salary after a BPT degree is reported to be INR 6 LPA.

For those seeking advanced specialization, a Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) course is available. This two-year postgraduate program allows for specialization in areas such as Orthopaedics, Neurology, Sports Physiotherapy, Paediatrics, and Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy. MPT graduates can explore roles in research, teaching, and senior clinical positions.

Institutions and University Offerings

Several universities and institutions across India offer BPT programs. IIMT University, recognized as a Category 1 University by UGC and accredited with an A+ Grade by NAAC, offers a 4.5-year BPT program and provides an on-campus hospital for clinical training. The university also offers scholarships up to 50% for meritorious students.

Other notable institutions offering BPT include Jamia Hamdard, New Delhi; PGIMER (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education & Research), Chandigarh; KLE University, Belagavi; and Amity University, Noida, among others. The course duration is structured with a curriculum covering biomechanics, pharmacology, physiology, anatomy, and various physical therapy techniques.

The Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) curriculum is structured over four academic years, covering a broad range of subjects essential for physiotherapy practice. The first year includes Physiology, Biochemistry, Anatomy, and English and Communication Skills.
