BPT 2026: Apply now for admission; NEET not mandatory

Admissions for the Bachelor of Physiotherapy (BPT) program for the 2026 academic year are currently open, offering a 4.5-year undergraduate course that includes four years of academics and a six-month mandatory clinical internship. This program is offered by institutions affiliated with universities such as the Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences.

The BPT course is increasingly sought after by Science (PCB) students interested in healthcare careers outside of MBBS, driven by rising demand for physiotherapy services due to sports injuries, post-surgical rehabilitation, lifestyle disorders, and an ageing population in India.

BPT Eligibility and Admission Process for 2026

Candidates aspiring for BPT admission in 2026 must have passed their 10+2 or an equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and English as core subjects. Some institutions specify a minimum requirement of 50% marks in Class 12 with PCB. The minimum age for eligibility is 17 years.

Admission to BPT programs can be merit-based, through the Common University Entrance Test (CUET UG), or via university-specific entrance tests. While NEET is not mandatory for BPT admission in 2026, a NEET score can broaden options for government and private Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) quota seats within Karnataka.

The application period for BPT 2026 is tentatively scheduled from March to April 2026, with entrance exams like CUET UG expected between May 11 and May 31, 2026. Merit lists and counselling are anticipated in June to July 2026, leading to final admissions in July to August 2026.

BPT Program Fees and Institutions

Approximately 40 or more physiotherapy colleges in Bangalore offer BPT courses. Institutions like IIMT University, which is NAAC ‘A’ Grade accredited and UGC recognized, offer a 4.5-year BPT program, including a six-month internship, approved by relevant allied health councils. Scholarships of up to 50% are available for meritorious students at IIMT University.

The annual fees for BPT programs vary significantly across institutions. For instance, Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, has approximate annual fees of ₹13,483. SRM College of Rehabilitation Sciences (SRMCRI), Chennai, charges approximately ₹1,25,000 per year. KLE University, Belagavi, Karnataka, has fees around ₹1,75,000 per year, while Acharya Institute of Health Sciences (AIHS), Bengaluru, Karnataka, charges approximately ₹2,10,000 per year.

Master of Physiotherapy (MPT) Overview and Past Admissions

Following a BPT degree, students can pursue a Master of Physiotherapy (MPT), a two-year postgraduate specialization. MPT specializations include Orthopaedics, Neurology, Sports Physiotherapy, Paediatrics, and Cardiopulmonary Physiotherapy, opening avenues in research, teaching, and senior clinical roles.

For the 2018-2019 MPT admission session in Tamil Nadu, candidates were required to be citizens of India and natives of Tamil Nadu, holding a B.P.T. Degree from the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University or an equivalent recognized university, with not less than 50% of the total marks in all semesters. Service candidates in Tamil Nadu Medical Service or local bodies needed to be B.P.T. graduates with two years of regular service as of April 30, 2018.

The MPT merit list for that session was prepared out of 100 marks, with 90 marks allocated for academic performance and up to 10 marks for experience. One mark was awarded for each completed year of experience (up to a maximum of 10 marks) from the last date of passing the B.P.T. Degree Examination. Two marks were awarded for each year of Government service in hilly areas, also up to a maximum of 10 marks.

The application process for MPT in Tamil Nadu for the 2018-2019 session involved online submission followed by sending a printout with enclosures. The online application closed on May 22, 2018, at 5:00 P.M., and the deadline for receiving the printout was May 23, 2018, at 5:45 P.M. The application cost was ₹1,000.
