The administration of Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur, Himachal Pradesh, suspended nine second-year MBBS students for two weeks and imposed fines on Thursday, October 15, 2026. This disciplinary action followed an investigation by the institute’s Anti-Ragging Committee into a complaint of ragging involving a junior medical student.

Three of the suspended students were fined Rs 50,000 each, while the remaining six were fined Rs 25,000 each. The college management stated that the instructions imposed on junior students constituted an act of ragging, even in the absence of any allegations of physical assault.
Investigation into the Ragging Complaint
The Anti-Ragging Committee launched an inquiry after receiving an email complaint from a first-year MBBS student from Delhi. The complainant alleged that more than half a dozen second-year MBBS students had been mistreating him for some time, repeatedly harassing and mentally troubling him.
The complaint detailed an incident where the first-year student and other junior MBBS students were called to a senior’s postgraduate (PG) room near Bhota Chowk. There, juniors were allegedly instructed to keep their eyes lowered and address seniors as ‘Doctor Sahib’ or ‘namaste, doctor sahab’, and were also given a specific format for introducing themselves.
Anti-Ragging Committee’s Findings and Action
The college’s Anti-Ragging Committee held a meeting on Tuesday, October 13, 2026, as part of its investigation. During this process, the committee recorded statements from eight junior students, including the complainant, who reportedly confirmed the misbehaviour by their seniors. The accused students, however, denied the allegations.
Based on its findings, the committee recommended the suspensions and fines. The three students who received the higher fine of Rs 50,000 each included the student who resided in the PG room where the incident occurred and the two students in charge of bringing the juniors to the room. The other six students, fined Rs 25,000 each, were present in the room when the junior students arrived.
| Number of Students | Fine Amount (Rs) |

| 6 | 25,000 |
Dr. Ramesh Bharti, Principal of Dr. Radhakrishnan Government Medical College, Hamirpur, stated, “Ragging will not be tolerated. By taking strict action in this case, an effort has been made to send a clear message to other students. All students have been made aware of anti-ragging rules. Students should remain vigilant and neither tolerate nor attempt ragging.”
