Himachal Pradesh CBSE Schools to Implement Three-Time Attendance, New Dress Codes from Oct 1

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu announced on Tuesday, September 2, 2026, the introduction of a three-time attendance system and separate dress codes for teachers and students in 150 CBSE government schools across Himachal Pradesh. This initiative aims to enhance the educational environment and strengthen facilities, particularly in rural areas.

The new attendance system will require students to mark their presence at morning arrival, during the lunch break, and at checkout. The prescribed dress code for teachers will become mandatory from October 1, 2026, with the state government providing financial assistance for its purchase.

The Himachal Pradesh Government, through its Education Department, confirmed that the three-time attendance system will be implemented in 150 CBSE government schools. This structured approach to attendance is designed to ensure consistent student presence throughout the school day, contributing to a more disciplined learning environment. Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that this measure is part of a broader strategy to provide quality education to children, especially those residing in rural areas, enabling them to access good schooling closer to their homes.

On top of the attendance system, separate dress codes will be introduced for both teachers and students. The dress code for teachers is set to be mandatory from October 1, 2026. To support this transition, the state government will provide one-time special financial assistance of Rs 5,000 to each teacher for the purchase of the prescribed attire. A decision regarding the specific school uniform for students is expected to be finalized within the next week, says official announcements.

The state government is committing significant resources to improve the infrastructure and educational quality in these CBSE schools. An additional Rs 80 crore will be provided for further improvements and strengthening of facilities. This financial injection underscores the government’s dedication to creating a conducive learning atmosphere and ensuring that schools are well-equipped to deliver high-quality education.

Currently, around 1,200 teachers have already been appointed in the 150 CBSE government schools across Himachal Pradesh. This reliable staffing, combined with the new policy initiatives, is expected to significantly bolster the educational framework. The Chief Minister highlighted that these steps are crucial for creating a better educational environment and ensuring that all students, regardless of their location, have access to excellent learning opportunities.
