Hindi University has announced that PhD admissions will commence and continue regularly starting today, September 22, 2026. Alongside the restart of PhD admissions, the university will also be reintroducing its women’s studies and film studies programs.

This development comes as various universities across India are opening PhD admissions for the 2026-27 academic session, including specialized programs like PhD in Hindi, which offers career opportunities in teaching, research, translation, and media.

PhD in Hindi Admission Details at Other Universities

Several other institutions are also accepting applications for PhD in Hindi programs. Desh Bhagat University (DBU) in Punjab offers a PhD in Hindi, with registration having started on May 1, 2026. Eligibility for DBU’s program requires a Master’s degree in Hindi or a related field with at least 55% marks, or 50% for SC/ST/OBC candidates. DBU conducts a PhD Entrance Test (PET) for admission, and candidates must submit a research proposal. The program has a minimum duration of 3 years and a maximum of 6 years.

Mangalayatan University in Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, offers both part-time and full-time PhD programs in Hindi. Admissions at Mangalayatan University are governed by the UGC’s (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of Ph.D. Degrees) Regulations, 2018 (1st Amendment). The university’s PhD in Hindi program for the July Session 2026 is currently open for registration, aiming to develop advanced abilities in literature, language, and cultural studies.

Eligibility and Fee Structure at Mangalayatan University

For PhD in Hindi at Mangalayatan University, candidates need a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks, with a 5% relaxation for SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS/Differently-Abled candidates. Holders of a 4-year Bachelor’s degree after NEP 2020 implementation require a minimum of 75% marks for admission. M.Phil. holders and UGC-NET/CSIR-NET/GATE qualified candidates are exempted from the entrance exam but must appear for an interview. Foreign nationals must have a valid research visa and necessary government approvals.

The application fee for PhD admission at Mangalayatan University is ₹1500, which is non-refundable. The program fee is Rs. 90,000 per year, with additional one-time fees for registration, coursework, synopsis, thesis submission, and viva. A 10% relaxation in fees is offered for Women, Differently Abled individuals, and spouses or children of Indian Army Service Men. The full-time and part-time PhD duration is a minimum of 3 years and a maximum of 8 years for males, and 10 years for females with extension approval.
