IIT JAM 2027: Register by October 19

IIT Kharagpur, the organizing institute for the Joint Admission Test for Masters (JAM) 2027, has announced an extension to the registration deadline for the entrance examination. Aspiring candidates now have until October 19, 2026, to complete their applications, a revision from the previous deadline of October 12, 2026.

This extension aims to offer late applicants additional time to finalize their choice of test papers and ensure timely payment of the application fees. The IIT JAM examination serves as a benchmark for science education in India, supporting admissions to postgraduate science programs across 23 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and other prestigious institutions like the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), with approximately 3,000 seats offered annually.

Application Process and Revised Schedule

Candidates can submit their applications online through the official JAM portal at jam.iitkgp.ac.in and the JAM Online Application Processing System (JOAPS) portal at joaps.iitkgp.ac.in. The application window initially opened on September 11, 2026. The extension provides a crucial week for applicants to ensure all details are correctly submitted.

Following the application period, a data correction window is tentatively scheduled to open on November 10, 2026, where a correction fee of ₹300 will apply for any changes made. The examination itself will be conducted on February 14, 2027, with results expected on March 18, 2027.

Examination Structure and Eligibility

The IIT JAM 2027 entrance examination will be a Computer Based Test (CBT) conducted for seven distinct test papers. These papers include Biotechnology (BT), Chemistry (CY), Economics (EN), Geology (GG), Mathematical Statistics (MS), Mathematics (MA), and Physics (PH). The examination will be held in two sessions on February 14, 2027: a forenoon session from 9:30 AM to 12:30 PM and an afternoon session from 2:30 PM to 5:30 PM.

Each test paper will consist of 60 questions across three formats: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT). Candidates are permitted to register for up to two test papers, provided they are scheduled in different sessions. There is no age limit for appearing in IIT JAM 2027. Eligibility criteria require candidates to have completed an undergraduate degree or be in the final year of their qualifying undergraduate degree in 2027. OBC-NCL and EWS certificates must be issued on or after April 1, 2026.

Application Fees and Payment Details

The application fee for IIT JAM 2027 varies based on the candidate’s category and the number of test papers they opt for. For Female, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates, the fee is ₹1,000 for one paper and ₹1,350 for two papers. All other candidates are required to pay ₹2,000 for one paper and ₹2,700 for two papers.

The application fee is non-refundable and non-transferable. Payments can be processed through various online modes, including net banking, debit card, credit card, or UPI. Candidates are advised to complete their fee payment well before the revised deadline of October 19, 2026.
