The National Testing Agency (NTA) is set to release the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2027 syllabus, along with its information bulletin, tentatively in October-November 2026. This syllabus will guide aspirants for admission to undergraduate engineering programs at NITs, IIITs, and other centrally funded technical institutions, and serves as a qualifying examination for JEE Advanced 2027.

The upcoming syllabus is expected to cover Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics from NCERT Class 11 and Class 12 courses. Significant changes involve the removal of several topics across all three subjects, aligning with recent NTA efforts to speed up the curriculum closer to NCERT textbooks. The JEE Main 2027 examination pattern is anticipated to remain consistent with that of 2026.

Syllabus Revisions for 2027

The NTA has made specific revisions to the JEE Main 2027 syllabus, with several topics removed from Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. The Physics syllabus will now comprise 20 units, including Experimental Skills, but Communication Systems has been excluded. The Chemistry syllabus will also feature 20 units, covering Physical, Inorganic, and Organic Chemistry, with topics such as States of Matter, Surface Chemistry, Hydrogen, s-Block Elements, Isolation of Metals, Environmental Chemistry, Polymers, and Chemistry in Everyday Life no longer included. For Mathematics, the syllabus will consist of 14 units, with Mathematical Induction, Mathematical Reasoning, and Linear Programming removed.

These adjustments reflect a continued trend since previous cycles to align the JEE Main curriculum more closely with the NCERT framework. The 2026 structure, which included 20 units in Physics, 20 in Chemistry, and 14 in Mathematics, has been stable and is expected to be maintained for 2027, with the specified topic removals.

JEE Main 2027 Exam Structure and Marking

The JEE Main 2027 examination pattern is expected to remain unchanged from 2026. Paper 1 (B.E./B.Tech) will consist of 75 questions, totaling 300 marks. This paper is divided into 60 Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs) and 15 Numerical Value Questions (NVQs). Since 2025, the NTA reverted to a pre-pandemic format where all questions in Paper 1 are compulsory, with no optional questions. Each correct answer in both Section A (MCQ) and Section B (NVQ) will be awarded +4 marks, while incorrect answers will incur a penalty of -1 mark. Unattempted questions will receive 0 marks.

For Paper 2A (B.Arch), the exam will have 77 questions for 400 marks, covering Mathematics, Aptitude, and Drawing. Paper 2B (B.Planning) will include 100 questions for 400 marks, focusing on Mathematics, Aptitude, and Planning-based questions. The exam duration for Paper 1, Paper 2A only, or Paper 2B only is 3 hours. Candidates appearing for both Paper 2A and Paper 2B together will have 3 hours and 30 minutes. All papers, except the Drawing section of Paper 2A, will be conducted as a Computer Based Test (CBT).

Paper Subjects Total Questions Total Marks Mode
Paper 2A (B.Arch) Mathematics (25) + Aptitude (50) + Drawing (2) 77 400 CBT + Pen-and-paper (Drawing)
Paper 2B (B.Planning) Mathematics (25) + Aptitude (50) + Planning (25) 100 400 CBT only
