MGU PG 2026: Submit single online application for all programs

Mahatma Gandhi University (MGU) has opened admissions for its Post Graduate Degree Programmes (MGU-CSS) and B LiSc Ed courses in affiliated colleges for the 2026 academic year. The admission process is conducted through the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP), designed to make easier applications and enhance transparency and social justice.

The CAP system, first introduced by MGU in 2010 for PG programmes, requires applicants to submit only a single online application for admission to any number of colleges or programmes. This system aims to reduce the time, effort, and financial burden on candidates, who previously had to engage with multiple institutions individually. The university has stated that prospectuses issued in previous years are not valid for the 2026 admissions.

Application Process and Key Information

Candidates seeking admission to MGU’s Post Graduate Degree Programmes and B LiSc Ed for the 2026 academic year must utilise the Centralised Allotment Process (CAP). The university mandates a single online application for admission to any number of colleges or programmes. All official notifications and announcements regarding the admission process will be published on the university’s official website, www.mgu.ac.in. The current prospectus is subject to modifications, additions, or deletions as deemed necessary by the university.

International students follow a distinct admission procedure coordinated by the University Center for International Co-operation (UCIC). These students, excluding those under Government of India sponsored schemes, are required to submit an online application along with a fee of US$ 100. An additional 10% of seats, over and above the sanctioned strength, are earmarked for foreign students for each undergraduate programme. The admission process for international students is managed by the International Students Admission Committee (ISAC).

Seat Distribution and Reservation Policies

Seats in Government, Aided, and Self-financing affiliated colleges, as well as Self-financing programmes in Aided Colleges (excluding autonomous colleges), are primarily categorised into Merit seats, Community merit seats, and Management seats. Government Colleges offer all available seats, except those designated under sports, cultural, or Persons with Disability (PD) quotas.

Aided Colleges allocate Open quota seats, comprising 50% for aided/aided forward community colleges and 40% for aided backward community colleges. Also, 15% of seats are reserved for SC candidates and 5% for ST categories. Community Merit Quota Seats account for 10% in aided/aided forward community colleges and 20% in aided backward community colleges. Unaided Colleges and unaided programmes within Aided Colleges reserve 50% of their total seats, which include reservations for SC, ST, and SEBC categories. The remaining seats under the management quota are filled directly by the respective colleges.

Special Provisions and Additional Seats

Mahatma Gandhi University has implemented several special provisions by creating additional seats over and above the sanctioned strength for specific categories of students. These include 5% of seats in all affiliated institutions exclusively for candidates with benchmark disability, who require only a pass in the qualifying examination for admission to PG Programmes. Two additional seats are created in all courses in affiliated Arts & Science Colleges for Transgender students, who must provide an identity card or certificate from the Social Justice Department.

Further provisions include two additional seats in all programmes in affiliated Arts & Science Colleges for Orphan Children (one male and one female). An additional seat is also created in affiliated Aided/Government Arts and Science colleges for children from Government Children’s Homes and institutions operating under the Juvenile Justice Act. Also, five seats are created for children who have lost both parents due to the Covid-19 pandemic. An additional seat is also designated for students sponsored by the Union Territory of Lakshadweep, and another for Malayalee students from the Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

Sports Quota Admissions

For admissions under the Sports Quota, candidates must be 25 years of age or younger. One seat is reserved for every 20 seats in M.A., M.Sc., and M.Com Programmes under this quota, with provisions for interchangeability. Points are awarded based on the level of representation and achievement in sports, as detailed below:

Those seeking admission under specific categories such as Nominees, Transgender, Orphan children, Government Children’s Home, Juvenile Justice Act, or PM Cares for Children Scheme should first apply online and then submit a printout of their application along with relevant certificates to the concerned colleges.
