The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) Education Committee has set a target of 50,000 new admissions in its schools as part of the ‘School Chalo’ campaign. This initiative aims to integrate more children into the municipal education system. Concurrently, the committee has directed officials to expedite the recruitment process for approximately 2,800 multi-tasking staff (MTS) posts, setting a 15-day deadline for the submission of the recruitment file.
These decisions were made during a meeting of the MCD Education Committee held on Tuesday, chaired by Yogesh Verma. The measures are intended to strengthen sanitation and security arrangements, address existing gaps in school infrastructure, and bring about what the committee describes as radical change to MCD schools.
New Admissions Target and Infrastructure Enhancements
The MCD Education Committee has mandated that each school target a minimum of 30 new admissions during November 2026. This drive is part of a broader effort to build parents’ trust through improved facilities and quality education. Verma stated, “you can’t skip to build parents’ trust through better facilities and quality education in municipal schools.”
To support this enrolment push and enhance the learning environment, officials have been directed to fast-track the release of minor repair funds for school buildings, with the process to be completed within 15 days. In addition, a one-month deadline has been set for the installation of five smartboards per school and for ensuring necessary toilet facilities and new water coolers in relevant newly constructed schools. The committee also called for the expansion of modern infrastructure across municipal schools.
MTS Recruitment and Administrative Reforms
The recruitment of around 2,800 multi-tasking staff is a key component of the committee’s strategy to bolster sanitation and security within MCD schools. Officials have been given a strict 15-day deadline to submit the recruitment file for these positions. This move is expected to address critical staffing needs and improve the overall functioning of the schools.
As for administrative reforms, the committee has directed officials to expedite deploying an online teacher transfer policy. Officials were also asked to submit a detailed report on transfers carried out so far, including the rules and criteria applied, following discussions on anomalies in the existing teacher transfer policy. To enhance transparency and reduce delays in administrative decisions, schools and officials have been instructed to process all files through the E-Office system.
Focus on Value-Driven Education and Waste Management
The MCD Education Committee is prioritizing the qualitative aspects of education, beyond infrastructure and staffing. Yogesh Verma will constitute a panel of academicians to recommend methods for incorporating moral values, civic responsibilities, environmental protection, and discipline into school education. This panel is tasked with submitting its report within one month.
Along with educational content, the committee emphasized environmental sustainability within school premises. They called for the installation of Aerobins or other suitable organic waste processing systems in schools. This initiative aims to process biodegradable waste on campus and promote zero-waste campuses, aligning with Verma’s broader vision to establish a new identity for MCD schools looking at a value-driven environment.
