The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the National Medical Commission (NMC) have released the seat matrix for National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Postgraduate (NEET PG) counselling 2026. Concurrently, the MCC opened the round 1 registration portal for Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates today, October 1, 2026, on its official website, mcc.nic.in.
This year, the total number of MD, MS, and PG diploma seats for the 2026-27 academic year has reached 63,177 across government, private, and deemed medical institutions nationwide. This represents an increase of 5,827 seats compared to the previous year, with an 11% overall rise in MD, MS, and diploma seats to 58,000 from 52,173 in the prior academic cycle. Seats in private and deemed universities have seen a 32% increase, while government medical colleges have expanded their seat capacity by up to 10%.
NEET PG 2026 PWD Assessment and Key Dates
The registration for PwD candidates commenced on October 1, 2026. The primary medical assessment board will remain open from October 1, 2026, at 5 pm, until October 9, 2026. Later, the Appellate Medical Assessment Board will conduct medical assessments from 10:00 A.M. Of October 5, 2026, up to 05:00 P.M. Of October 12, 2026. The National Board of Examinations for Medical Sciences (NBEMS) will issue question ID numbers, correct answers, candidates’ recorded/marked responses, and scores awarded for each question on or after October 1, 2026.
The NMC released the postgraduate medical seat matrix for the 2026-27 academic year on September 29, 2026. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, is responsible for conducting online counselling for the All India Quota (AIQ) seats.

Seat Matrix Overview and Increased Availability
The total number of MD, MS, and PG Diploma seats across government, private, and deemed medical institutions nationwide is 63,177 for the 2026-27 academic year. Karnataka leads with 8,323 seats, followed by Maharashtra (6,992), Tamil Nadu (6,306), Uttar Pradesh (6,082), and Andhra Pradesh (4,142). Regarding specialties, General Medicine (MD) has 6,143 seats, Anaesthesiology (MD) has 5,672 seats, and General Surgery (MS) has 5,591 seats. Obstetrics and Gynaecology (MS) offers 4,690 seats, and Paediatrics (MD) provides 4,203 seats. Branches such as anaesthesia, ophthalmology, ENT, pathology, psychiatry, and respiratory medicine also saw an overall increase in seats.

NEET PG 2026 Cut-Offs and Counselling Fees
The NEET PG 2026 results for MD, MS, DNB, and PG diploma admissions were declared by NBEMS on September 24, 2026. The cut-off for the General/EWS category is the 50th percentile, corresponding to 262 marks out of 720. For the General PwBD category, the cut-off is the 45th percentile (244 marks), and for the SC/ST/OBC category, it is the 40th percentile (226 marks).
The registration fee for All India Quota (AIQ) counselling is ₹1,000 for UR/EWS candidates and ₹500 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates. A security deposit of ₹25,000 for UR/EWS and ₹10,000 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD candidates is required for AIQ counselling. The central reservation policy for AIQ seats includes 15% for SC, 7.5% for ST, 27% for OBC-NCL, and 10% for EWS, with a 5% horizontal PwD reservation applied within each category.
