NEET SS Counselling 2025: Round 2 Registration Reopens; Check Important Rules and Details
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has officially reopened the registration and reset registration window for Round 2 of the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test Super Speciality (NEET SS) Counselling 2025 on July 7, 2026. This decision brings vital relief to thousands of super-speciality medical aspirants vying for DM, MCh, and DrNB SS seats across the country after a prolonged pause in the counselling timeline.
If you missed the previous deadlines or need to reset your registration parameters, this is your final opportunity to secure your seat. Here is everything you need to know about the new updates, automatic upgradation, and the background timeline.
Why Has MCC Reopened Round 2 Registration?
The MCC decided to restore the NEET SS Round 2 registration process due to ongoing legal proceedings in the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India. The delay is linked to the high-profile case of Tamilvani & Ors. vs State of Tamil Nadu (W.P No. 415 of 2026).
This specific case deals with the complex matter of reverting in-service super-speciality seats from the state of Tamil Nadu back into the All India Quota (AIQ) pool. Earlier, MCC had released the initial Round 2 seat matrix on March 28, 2026, with choice filling starting briefly on March 29, 2026. However, due to legal adjustments regarding these seat pools, the registration facility has been reopened to give all candidates an equal, updated playing field.

Important Dates: What is the Deadline?
According to the official notification published by the MCC on July 7, 2026, the registration and reset registration windows will remain open until further orders are received from the Supreme Court.
Important Note for Candidates: Because the registration window depends entirely on upcoming Supreme Court directives, MCC has not yet declared a specific closing date. Candidates are strongly advised not to wait until the last minute and complete their registrations or reset processes as soon as possible on the official website:

The New Auto-Upgradation Rule: How It Works?
Along with reopening registrations, the MCC has introduced a crucial change regarding seat upgrades in Round 2.
-
Automatic Eligibility: There will be automatic upgradation in Round 2. This means all candidates will be considered eligible for a seat upgrade, regardless of whether they selected the “willingness for upgradation” option during the Round 1 window (which ran from March 10 to March 15, 2026) or not.
-
Retaining Your Round 1 Seat: If you are happy with the seat you got when results were declared on March 18, 2026, and do not want it to change, simply do not fill any choices for Round 2. If you submit no new choices, the system will automatically let you retain your original Round 1 allotment.
-
The Risk of Choice Filling: If you choose to fill fresh preferences in Round 2 and a new seat is allotted to you based on your merit, your Round 1 seat will be automatically canceled and given to another candidate.
