NEET UG 2026: JKBOPEE opens 3rd/mop-up round counselling today, submit preferences

The Jammu & Kashmir Board of Professional Entrance Examinations (JKBOPEE) today, September 28, 2026, commenced the 3rd/Mop-up Round of Counselling for admission to MBBS and BDS courses for the 2026 academic session. A notification (No. 218) was issued by JKBOPEE to fill seats that remained vacant after the first and second counselling rounds.

This final counselling round requires eligible NEET UG 2026 candidates to submit their online preferences through the official JKBOPEE portal. The process is crucial for candidates seeking admission to the approximately 1,347 MBBS and 229 BDS seats available across government and private institutions in Jammu & Kashmir.

Eligibility and Preference Submission Process

To participate in the 3rd/Mop-up round, candidates must be eligible NEET UG 2026 candidates, having appeared for the examination, scored above the qualifying cutoff, and registered for counselling with JKBOPEE. Candidates from all categories, including General, OBC, SC, ST, and others as per J&K norms, are eligible. Notably, candidates who were allotted a seat in the first or second round but did not report or accept it also remain eligible for this final round.

Candidates are required to log into the JKBOPEE counselling portal using their NEET registration credentials. The portal will display all available MBBS and BDS seats across colleges in Jammu & Kashmir. The submission of preferences is critical, as the counselling algorithm matches these preferences with available seats based on NEET rank, category, and merit order. Failure to submit preferences will result in a candidate not being allotted a seat in this round. Mop-up rounds typically have very short preference submission windows, sometimes as brief as 24–48 hours.

Counselling Fees and Reservation Framework

The initial application fee for counselling is approximately ₹1,000, while the choice-filling/counselling fee is approximately ₹1,500. The JKBOPEE conducts counselling for 100% of MBBS and BDS seats within the Union Territory. Admissions for the 2026 session are based on NEET UG 2026 scores and All India Rank, following the result declared on July 16, 2026.

The J&K reservation framework includes categories such as Open Merit (OM), EWS, OBC, ALC/IB, P&B, RBA, SC, ST-I, ST-II, STK, and STL. Separate physical counselling rounds are conducted for Hindu Minority quota (25 seats) and NRI quota (10 seats) at ASCOMS, Jammu. Candidates must be domiciled in the Union Territory of Jammu & Kashmir or Ladakh, be at least 17 years old as of December 31, 2026, and have passed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology, with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks (40% for reserved categories).

Key Dates and Institutional Participation

The initial online application for Jammu and Kashmir NEET UG Counselling 2026 was conducted from August 7 to August 10, 2026. Round 1 choice filling took place from August 16 to August 18, 2026, with results declared on August 24, 2026. Round 2 counselling followed from September 7 to September 10, 2026, and results were announced on September 15, 2026. The current 3rd/Mop-up Round is also referred to as the ‘Final Counselling Round’. Seats left vacant after Round 2 will be converted to the Open Merit (OM) category if no eligible reserved-category candidates are available.

The Union Territory has 12 medical colleges offering approximately 1,347 MBBS seats in total and approximately 229 BDS seats across government and private institutions. Notable participating institutes include Government Medical College, Jammu (GMC-JMU) with 153 seats, Government Medical College, Srinagar (GMC-SGR) with 153 seats, SKIMS Medical College, Srinagar (SKIMSMC-SGR) with 106 seats, and ASCOMS, Sidhra, Jammu (ASCOMS-JMU) with 100 seats.
