Puducherry Technological University releases B.Tech AI & Data Science 2026 seat matrix

Puducherry Technological University (PTU), formerly known as Pondicherry Engineering College, released the seat matrix for its new B.Tech. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI&DS) course on September 24, 2026. This release is part of the ongoing admission process for first year and lateral entry B.Tech. courses for the 2026-27 academic year.

The admission process for B.Tech. courses at PTU is managed through the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) and JoSAA. The introduction of the AI&DS course adds a new option for candidates, with a total of 30 seats available.

B.Tech. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science Seat Distribution

The newly introduced B.Tech. Artificial Intelligence and Data Science course has a total seat capacity of 30. Of these, 23 seats are designated for the All India quota, and 7 seats are reserved for the Puducherry (UT) quota. All seats in this course are Gender-Neutral.

The distribution of seats under the All India Gender-Neutral quota includes 12 for the OPEN category, 3 for SC, 2 for ST, and 6 for OBC-NCL. For the Puducherry (UT) Gender-Neutral quota, there are 4 seats for OPEN, 1 for SC, and 2 for OBC-NCL. The total seats across all B.Tech programs at PTU listed in the JoSAA seat matrix is 281.

Admission Process and MOP UP Counseling

The admission process for B.Tech. courses at PTU involves both CENTAC and JoSAA. Physical reporting for JoSAA and CSAB Special Round candidates was completed by August 19, 2026. CENTAC has completed three rounds of admissions, and a Mop Up Counseling is currently underway.

Applicants for the Mop Up Counseling were instructed to submit their course preferences, which now include the Artificial Intelligence and Data Science (AI&DS) option, before 5 p.m. On September 22, 2026. Also, 124 vacancies available under Self-Support category courses will also be filled by CENTAC. The last date for applications for CENTAC 2026-27 B.Tech. Admission Notification was May 29, 2026.

Fee Structure and Refund Policy

The fee structure for B.Tech. admissions at Puducherry Technological University varies based on the admission channel and candidate category. For CENTAC – UT of Puducherry Candidates, the fee payable is ₹32,101. JoSAA/CSAB General Category candidates are required to pay ₹92,401, after deducting a transferable amount of ₹70,000 from the PAF remitted. For JoSAA/CSAB SC/ST Category candidates, the fee is ₹57,401, after deducting ₹30,000 transferable from the PAF remitted.

Candidates admitted under the CENTAC – Self Support (UTP and OS) category will pay ₹1,62,401 for General/OBC/EWS candidates and ₹87,401 for SC/ST candidates. The fee payable for NEUT candidates is ₹57,101. An additional hostel fee of ₹75,000, which includes a caution deposit, is also applicable. Refunds for candidates allotted seats by JoSAA/CSAB who do not join PTU will be processed after the transfer of PAF to CSAB, expected in December 2026 or January 2027, with a processing fee of ₹1,000 deducted. Refund requests from candidates who complete admission formalities at PTU and then discontinue will be processed within 2-3 weeks, with the amount remitted to the university refunded after deducting a ₹1,000 processing fee.

Documents Required for Admission Registration

Candidates registering for B.Tech. admission at PTU are required to submit a set of documents for verification. These include the hardcopy of the online admission proforma, proof of fee payment, and original certificates for verification. Essential academic documents such as 10th, 11th, and 12th qualifying exam mark statements are mandatory.

Other required documents include the Transfer Certificate, Provisional Certificate/Diploma Certificate, Nationality/Residence & Community/PIC certificates, and any special category certificates (FF/PwD/Defense/Sports). A latest Income Certificate is optional for availing scholarship schemes. Proof of Date of Birth (Birth certificate is mandatory), a Declaration Form, an Anti Ragging form, JEE Main Score Card, and the JoSAA/CSAB allotment order are also necessary. The admission office for lateral entry candidates operates on the first floor of the PTU Auditorium between 9:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on working days.
