SMU Sikkim MD/MS round 1 counselling schedule 2026 released: choice filling by October 28

Sikkim Manipal University (SMU) and its constituent unit, the Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), today, October 17, 2026, released the MD/MS Round 1 Counselling Schedule for the 2026-27 academic session. This schedule outlines the key dates for admissions to postgraduate medical courses, which will be strictly based on NEET PG 2026 scores and All India Ranks (AIR).

The entire counselling process will be conducted online, with candidates required to log in to the official portal, smu.edu.in, to participate. This year, Sikkim has a total of 32 MD/MS seats, all of which are available at SMIMS, Gangtok, as there are no government PG medical colleges in the state.

Key Dates for Round 1 Counselling

The schedule released by SMU/SMIMS details the timeline for various stages of the Round 1 counselling process. The choice filling window is set to open on October 27, 2026, and will conclude on October 28, 2026. Following this, the Counselling Committee will scrutinise forms before publishing the seat allotment result.

Candidates who are allotted seats will then proceed to fee payment and subsequent physical reporting. The application period for Round 1 began on October 09, 2026, and closed on October 25, 2026.

Eligibility and Application Process

To be eligible for SMU Sikkim MD/MS admissions, candidates must have appeared for NEET PG 2026 and obtained a valid score and All India Rank. The NEET PG 2026 exam was conducted on August 30, 2026, with results declared on September 24, 2026. In addition, applicants must have submitted a valid application form on the official SMU portal within the designated registration timeframe, which concluded on October 25, 2026.

The National Medical Commission (NMC) released the 2026-27 PG seat matrix on September 29, 2026, confirming 32 seats for Sikkim, all allocated to SMIMS. The minimum qualifying percentile for NEET PG 2026 is 50th percentile (262 marks) for General/EWS candidates and 40th percentile (226 marks) for SC/ST/OBC (PwD) candidates.

Caution Against Fraudulent Admissions

SMIMS has issued a cautionary notice regarding fraudulent admission offers, advising candidates to be wary of imposters. The Dean of SMIMS stated, “It has come to our notice that certain imposters are misleading applicants by issuing fake call letters and collecting large sums of money for admission into MBBS and MD/MS courses at Sikkim Manipal Institute of Medical Sciences (SMIMS), Gangtok.”

The Admission Officer of SMIMS further clarified that the institute follows a transparent admission system and does not engage with any agents, consultants, or third parties for admissions. All official communication regarding admissions will be through the individual login portal of SMIMS, or via the official email admission.smims@smu.edu.in and phone numbers 03592 270389 and +91 90836 18855. Candidates are advised not to entertain any other requests or offers.

Steps for Choice Filling and Further Process

Candidates participating in the counselling process must adhere to the following steps for choice filling and subsequent procedures:

1. Log in to smu.edu.in using their application credentials.
2. Access the MD/MS Round 1 Counselling link on the user dashboard.
3. Select and arrange preferred specialisations in order of priority.
4. Lock the choices and download/print the confirmation copy before October 28, 2026 (Midnight).
5. Check the Round 1 seat allotment result on October 31, 2026.
6. Complete fee payment between October 31, 2026, and November 04, 2026.
7. Attend physical reporting on November 10, 2026.

The application and counselling process fee is non-refundable. Candidates are reminded that the online application and data rectification deadline for Round 1 was October 25, 2026 (Midnight).
