The UCEED examination serves as a gateway for design aspirants seeking admission to the Bachelor of Design (B.Des) programmes offered by premier institutes, including various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs). The guide aims to clarify the structure and content of the exam, which is known for its broad syllabus.

UCEED 2027 Exam Structure and Evaluation

The UCEED 2027 examination is a 3-hour assessment divided into two distinct parts: Part A and Part B. Part A is a computer-based section carrying 200 out of a total of 300 marks. This section is crucial as it acts as the shortlisting gate for candidates. Part B, a descriptive section worth 100 marks, is designed to evaluate drawing ability and design aptitude, and it determines the final rank among qualified candidates.

Section A consists of objective questions across three formats: Numerical Answer Type (NAT), Multiple Select Questions (MSQ), and Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ). While Part A determines the candidate’s rank, Part B scores are not directly counted in the final UCEED rank. Instead, individual IITs utilise Part B scores to shortlist candidates for their final admission rounds.

Detailed Syllabus for UCEED 2027

The UCEED 2027 syllabus encompasses a range of topics designed to evaluate visual perception, logical reasoning, design aptitude, and communication skills. The preparation guide outlines specific areas for both Part A and Part B of the examination. The overall UCEED 2027 Study Guide also includes 12 years of solved papers, covering examinations from 2015 to 2026.

For Part A, the syllabus is structured into six sections, focusing on various cognitive and analytical skills. Part B specifically assesses practical design and drawing abilities.

Participating Institutes and Score Validity

UCEED scores are accepted by several Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) for admission to their B.Des programmes. These include IIT Bombay, IIT Delhi, IIT Guwahati, IIT Hyderabad, IIT Indore, and IIT Roorkee, and IIITDM Jabalpur. The UCEED score is valid for one year and is applicable only for admission in the same year the examination was taken.

Candidates are permitted to appear for the UCEED examination a maximum of two times in consecutive years. This provision allows aspirants a second opportunity to secure a seat in the participating design institutes.
