The Yashwantrao Chavan Maharashtra Open University (YCMOU) has extended the application deadline for admissions for its 2026 session to September 25, 2026. This decision aims to provide prospective students who may have missed the initial application window with more time to submit their applications for the upcoming academic year.

The extension specifically applies to the university’s July session for the 2026-27 academic year. Students can now complete their registration process without incurring late fee penalties, ensuring broader access to YCMOU’s diverse range of programs.
Application Process and Eligibility
Interested candidates must visit the official YCMOU website at ycmou.ac.in to access the application portal. The online admission process involves several steps: registration, filling out the application form, uploading required documents, paying the admission fees, and final submission. Applicants are advised to ensure all necessary documentation is scanned and uploaded correctly and that the application fee is paid online to successfully complete their registration.
YCMOU offers over 133 distinct undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate courses. For undergraduate (UG) courses, students typically need to have Class 12th passing documents with at least 45% marks. Postgraduate (PG) courses require candidates to provide their UG degree documents in the relevant field. Eligibility criteria for Certificate and Diploma courses generally require a 10+2 Pass or equivalent, or graduation in the relevant subject.
Dual Degree Options and Entrance Examinations
In line with University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines, YCMOU now supports a dual-degree structure. This allows students to pursue a regular degree from any recognized university while simultaneously enrolling in a distance education program at YCMOU. In addition, students have the flexibility to pursue two separate distance learning degrees directly through YCMOU all the while.
Admission to certain programs at YCMOU requires specific entrance examinations. For Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in languages, general, journalism, mass communication, BCom, and BBA, a Common Entrance Test (CET) is required along with 10+2 marks. Similarly, admission to M.A, M.Sc, M.Com, and M.Li.Sc programs also necessitates a CET. For MBA and MPH programs, YCMOU conducts its own CET, while PhD admissions require candidates to clear a PhD Entrance Test (PET).
Fees and University Background
The application fees for most courses at YCMOU range from INR 100 to INR 1000, with numerous courses having an application fee of INR 500. The annual fee structure for programs at the university typically falls between INR 6,000 and INR 40,000. For instance, approximate entry fees for undergraduate programs are around INR 3000 per year, while professional courses such as MBA can be around INR 30,000 per year.
Established on July 1, 1989, by the Act XX- (1989) of the Maharashtra State Legislature, YCMOU is the fifth Open University in India.
