The positions are based in the Department of Computer Science & Systems Engineering at Andhra University, Visakhapatnam, and are part of the broader national effort to advance quantum technology in India.

Project Details and JRF Responsibilities

The recruitment is for the ‘QUEST: Quantum Enhanced WRF model for Urban Climate System Modelling’ project, which falls under the DST-National Quantum Mission’s Quantum Algorithms Project. Prof. V. Valli Kumari serves as the Member Investigator for this initiative. The selected JRFs will be involved in research and development activities related to quantum algorithms and other project-specific tasks.

The positions are temporary, with a tenure of three years or until the project concludes, whichever occurs earlier. Each JRF will receive a monthly fellowship of ₹37,000, along with House Rent Allowance (HRA) as per university norms.

Eligibility Criteria for Applicants

To be considered for the Junior Research Fellow positions, candidates must meet specific academic and technical qualifications. Essential requirements include a B.E./B.Tech. (or equivalent) and an M.E./M.Tech. in disciplines such as Computer Science, Information Technology, Artificial Intelligence, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or allied fields.

Applicants must have achieved a minimum of 75% marks or a 7.5 CPI/CGPA in both their B.E./B.Tech. And M.E./M.Tech. Degrees, with no outstanding backlogs. In addition, essential knowledge of Quantum Computing/Algorithms and hands-on experience with Qiskit are mandatory. A valid UGC NET/Gate score is considered desirable for candidates.

Application Process and Key Dates

Andhra University has invited applications for two Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions under the DST-National Quantum Mission. Interested candidates must submit their resumes along with relevant copies of certificates via email to vallikumari@andhrauniversity.edu.in. The deadline for application submission is October 23, 2026, as specified by Andhra University.

Shortlisted candidates will receive notification regarding the date and time for their interview. It has been clarified by Andhra University that no Travel Allowance (TA) or Dearness Allowance (DA) will be provided to candidates for attending the interview.

Context of the National Quantum Mission

The recruitment at Andhra University is part of the larger National Quantum Mission (NQM), a significant initiative approved by the Union Cabinet in April 2023. The mission has an allocated budget of ₹6,003 crore over eight years, from 2023 to 2031. India is the seventh country globally to launch a dedicated national quantum mission, aiming to establish itself as a leader in Quantum Technology (QT).

The NQM is implemented by the Ministry of Science & Technology through the Department of Science & Technology (DST). Its targets include developing quantum computers with 50-100 physical qubits by 2026 and 50-100 logical qubits by 2031. The mission also aims for secure quantum key distribution (QKD) over 2,000 km optical fibre and satellite-based QKD by 2031. Four Thematic Hubs (T-Hubs) have been established under NQM at IIT-Bombay, IIT-Delhi, IIT-Madras, and IISc Bangalore, with Andhra University listed among the participating institutions.
