Application Process and Fees for GATE 2027

The application process for GATE 2027 requires Indian nationals to register through DigiLocker, a mandatory step that involves a live photograph capture during the application. Candidates must ensure they carry the same original identity document used for verification to the examination centre.

For those applying during the extended period, the application fee for Female, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates is Rs. 1500 for one test paper. All other candidates, including foreign nationals, are required to pay Rs. 2500 for a single test paper. Candidates opting for two papers must pay double the respective fee.

Eligibility and Examination Structure

Students in the third or final year of a degree program, or those who have completed an eligible degree, can apply for GATE 2027. Eligible academic areas span Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, Commerce, Arts, and Humanities. There is no age limit or restriction on the number of attempts for GATE 2027.

GATE 2027 offers 30 test papers, and candidates have the option to choose either one or two papers from permitted combinations. The examination duration is three hours, and the question paper may include Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), Multiple Select Questions (MSQs), and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions.

New Additions and Syllabus Revisions

For GATE 2027, a new test paper, Robotics and Automation (RA), has been introduced. Also, Textile Engineering and Fibre Science have been reclassified as engineering papers. The syllabus for all GATE 2027 papers has undergone revision, with specific changes made to the XE, XH, and XL sectional paper codes.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) and the National Coordination Board (NCB-GATE) oversee the examination. IIT Madras rebuilt the front end of GATE 2027 registration around DigiLocker to make easier the identity verification process.
