The Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has launched an Online Assignment Management System (OAMS) for the December 2026 Term-End Examination (TEE). This new system, introduced on October 28, allows eligible students enrolled in open and distance learning and online programmes to submit their assignments digitally.
The initiative aims to smooth out the assignment submission process, offering students online acknowledgement and access to their assignment evaluation status. The deadline for digital assignment submission through the OAMS is November 20.
Online Assignment Submission Process and Guidelines
Students can submit their course-wise assignments through their IGNOU Samarth student accounts. The OAMS is designed to provide immediate online acknowledgement upon successful submission, with an additional acknowledgement sent to their registered email address. Students will also be able to check the evaluation status of their assignments via their Samarth student accounts.
Dr. Umesh Chandra Pandey, senior regional director and head of the IGNOU Regional Centre, Bhopal, stated that this initiative marks a step towards technology-based educational services. However, specific guidelines must be followed for digital submissions. Students are required to handwrite their assignment answers, which must then be scanned and uploaded as a single PDF file for each course. Each PDF file must not exceed 20 MB in size.
The first page of each assignment must clearly include the student’s name, enrolment number, study centre code, course code, regional centre code, regional centre name, and email address. Students must ensure that the assignment is correctly mapped to the relevant programme, course, and examination session before uploading. It has been clarified that students who have already passed assignments for a particular course are not required to submit them again. Similarly, students who have already submitted hard copies of assignments for the December 2026 TEE do not need to upload them online. Assignments sent by email to the regional centre or any other university office will not be accepted.
Deadline and Previous Extensions
The final date for digital assignment submission for the December 2026 TEE is November 20. This new system and its associated deadline follow a recent extension for assignment submissions for the December 2026 TEE. The last date for submitting assignments for Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and online programmes, including GOAL and EVBB, was extended to October 31, 2026, subject to approval by the competent authority.
IGNOU has a history of extending assignment submission deadlines for its Term-End Examinations. For instance, the deadline for the December 2023 TEE was extended to November 30, 2023, for both ODL and online programmes. Similarly, for the December 2022 TEE, the submission deadline was extended to October 31, 2022. These extensions covered both hard copy and soft copy submissions. The Ministry of Education issued a press release regarding the launch of the OAMS on October 28.
