IIT Bombay UG Admissions 2026: Important Information for New Entrants Released

Securing a seat at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT Bombay) is a massive milestone. If you are one of the bright minds joining the institute this year, big congratulations!

To ensure a smooth transition into campus life, IIT Bombay has released the official onboarding instructions and schedules for its incoming undergraduate (UG) batch of 2026–27. These guidelines apply to all students admitted across various programs, including B.Tech., Dual Degree (B.Tech. + M.Tech.), B.Des., and B.S., via entrance channels like JEE (Advanced) 2026, UCEED 2026, INMO 2026, and Preparatory 2025.

Here is everything you need to know about your welcome email, online formalities, mandatory fees, and key dates before you head to the Powai campus.

The Welcome Email: Your Gateway to IIT Bombay

Your journey officially begins digitally. IIT Bombay will send a welcome email to all undergraduate new entrants on July 17, 2026, by 10:00 PM.

This email will be sent to your registered email ID and contains critical credentials:

  • Your unique IIT Bombay Roll Number (your primary identity on campus)

  • IT services login credentials

  • Allocated hostel room details

  • Essential registration documents

Mandatory Online Formalities Before Arrival

You cannot just show up on campus; there are specific tasks you must finish online first. Once you receive your credentials, complete the following steps:

  1. Activate Your IT Account: Visit the official IT portal (cc.iitb.ac.in) to accept the institute’s IT Access Policy and activate your login ID. Your username will be your roll number in lowercase.

  2. Fill Details on the ASC Portal: Log into the Academic Services Centre (ASC) portal (portal.iitb.ac.in/asc) to fill out your personal details and accept the student declarations.

  3. Generate Your APAAR ID: All students must create an Automated Permanent Academic Account Registry (APAAR) ID and upload it directly onto the ASC portal.

Key Deadlines and Fee Payments

The institute requires all new entrants to pay their Semester Mess Advance (SMA) online through the portal as soon as their roll number is generated.

  • Last Date for SMA Payment: July 29, 2026.

  • Late Fee: Failing to clear the SMA by this date will attract a standard per-day late fee.

  • Free Messing Scheme: Students eligible for the free messing scholarship must pay the SMA initially. You can apply for a full reimbursement after joining the campus.

Essential Documents to Print and Carry

Before packing your bags, print out the pre-filled forms available on your ASC portal. You will need to sign these physically at the registration desk:

  • Student and Parent Declaration Form: To be submitted to your respective academic departments.

  • Hostel Registration Form: Show this at your hostel office to collect your room keys.

  • Medical File Record: Must be verified by an IIT Bombay Medical Officer on campus. Ensure you take necessary vaccinations (like MMR, Typhoid, or Chicken Pox) before arrival and bring your immunization records.

  • JoSAA/UCEED/INMO Seat Allotment Letter: Along with your original academic and category certificates.

Crucial Dates for Your Calendar

To help you plan your travel to Mumbai, here is the official onboarding timeline released by the IITB Academic Office:
