IIT Gandhinagar PhD CDP: Apply by September 28, 2026

IIT Gandhinagar has commenced the application process for its PhD Continuing Doctoral Programme (CDP) for Semester II of the 2026-27 academic year. Interested researchers and professionals must submit their online applications by the deadline of September 28, 2026, at 5:00 PM. The programme aims to admit eligible candidates across a range of engineering, science, and humanities disciplines.

The PhD CDP is offered in various fields, including Biological Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Cognitive Science, Computer Science and Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Earth Sciences, Archaeological Sciences, Electrical Engineering, Integrated Circuit Design and Technology, Humanities & Social Sciences, Materials Engineering, Mathematics, Mechanical Engineering, Maritime Engineering Design, and Physics. Candidates applying to multiple disciplines are required to submit a separate application for each.

Eligibility Criteria and Application Process

To be considered for admission, candidates must meet specific academic requirements. A minimum of 55% marks or a 5.5 CPI in their postgraduate or four-year bachelor’s degree is mandatory. For candidates belonging to the SC, ST, and PwD categories, the minimum requirement is relaxed to 50% marks or a 5.0 CPI. These are the minimum institute-level eligibility requirements, and applicants must also fulfil any department-specific criteria.

The application process is entirely online. The application fee for SC/ST/PwD candidates is INR 150, while for all other categories, it is INR 300. This fee is non-refundable and must be paid as part of the online application submission.

Selection Procedure and Important Dates

Admission to the PhD CDP is primarily based on an interview, which may be supplemented by a written test. A limited number of candidates will be shortlisted for these selection rounds. The final selection will consider academic credentials alongside performance in the written test and/or interview. Shortlisted candidates will be notified by their respective departments regarding the mode (online or offline) and specific dates of their selection process.

Key dates for the admission cycle have been announced. The application window closes on September 28, 2026. The tentative date for the announcement of shortlisted candidates is October 15, 2026, with interviews and/or written tests scheduled between October 22 and November 6, 2026.

Fellowship Opportunities

Eligible regular PhD scholars admitted to the IIT Gandhinagar PhD Continuing Doctoral Programme (CDP) for the 2026-27 academic year, Semester II, may be considered for an institute fellowship. This consideration is subject to the availability of funds, as stated by IIT Gandhinagar. Qualifying candidates could initially receive a monthly fellowship of Rs 37,000.

The monthly fellowship amount stands a chance of increase to Rs 42,000 after the successful completion of two years of doctoral study.
