What is the OOBT Course All About?
Many people consider mathematics to be just numbers, formulas, and strict rules. The OOBT course aims to change that viewpoint. Designed by renowned mathematics educator Sadagopan Rajesh (Founder-Director of the Aryabhatta Institute of Mathematical Sciences), the curriculum focuses on mathematical logic as an everyday tool for creative thinking.
Rather than focusing on heavy calculations, the lessons use puzzles, pattern-finding, visual reasoning, mask math, and real-life riddles. The goal is to train the brain to look at a problem from multiple angles and find indirect, unexpected solutions.
Prof. V. Kamakoti, Director of IIT Madras, highlighted that encouraging innovative mathematical thinking is vital not just for personal development, but also for scientific and technological advancements that drive national progress.
Four Progressive Levels
The OOBT program is structured into four distinct, progressive levels so that learners can start at an age-appropriate stage and gradually build their confidence:
| Level | Target Audience | Focus & Course Length |
| Level 1 | Class 5 students and above | Basic logic, number puzzles, and visual reasoning (20 hours) |
| Level 2 | Class 7 students and above | Pattern recognition, logical deductions, and arrangement logic (20 hours) |
| Level 3 | Class 9 students and above | Advanced analytical concepts and real-world mathematical applications (30 hours) |
| Level 4 | Class 11 students, college students & adults | Complex problem-solving, abstract reasoning, and systemic thinking (30 hours) |
Each level spans 10 weeks. Every week, short pre-recorded video lectures are published online, accompanied by assignments to help participants practice what they have learned.
Certification and Examination
While access to all learning materials, weekly lectures, and practice assignments is completely free, IITM Pravartak also offers an optional certification process:
-
Optional In-Person Exam: Learners who wish to receive a formal grade certificate can choose to sit for an offline, proctored written examination conducted at designated exam centers across select cities in India.
-
Nominal Exam Fee: A small, nominal fee is charged only to those who register for the final exam to cover administration costs.
-
Graded Certificate: Based on their test performance, successful candidates earn an official Grade Certificate issued directly by IITM Pravartak.
School Outreach and Coordinator Program
To take this course to millions of young minds across India, IITM Pravartak is actively collaborating with schools. Schools can appoint a teacher as an Institute Coordinator or Single Point of Contact (SPOC). These coordinators help guide students through the registration process, track their weekly progress, and build excitement around creative math learning.
