The Ladakh administration, through its health and medical education department, issued revised guidelines for admission to MBBS and BDS seats under the Central pool on Tuesday, September 23, 2026. These new guidelines, which received approval from Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena, introduce a single merit list for admissions, marking a significant change from the previous system.

The decision to amend existing guidelines and introduce a single merit list follows the formation of seven new districts in the Union territory. This change aims to make easier the admission process for the Central pool MBBS/Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) seats, affecting all eligible candidates from Ladakh.

Changes to the Admission System

Under the revised guidelines, the existing system of separate categories and a roster, which was introduced in 2021, will be discontinued. The previous system considered candidates under different categories, including reserved and unreserved, Leh and Kargil districts, and male and female candidates, for admission through a roster system.

With the new guidelines, a single merit list will be maintained for admission to allotted medical and dental colleges. This list will be compiled irrespective of the domicile district, sex, or reserved or unreserved status of the candidates. Admissions will now be made strictly on the basis of NEET merit/ranking and the choices exercised by eligible candidates.

Central Pool Seat Allotments for 2026-27

For the academic year 2026-27, the Centre has allotted a total of nine seats to Ladakh under the Central pool: seven MBBS seats and two BDS seats. These allocations are consistent with the numbers for the previous academic session.

The seven MBBS seats are distributed across various colleges, including Lady Hardinge Medical College in New Delhi and Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi. The two BDS seats are allotted to K.G. Dental College in Lucknow and Government Dental College in Indore. Eligible candidates with a valid NEET ranking have seven days to apply for these seats through the official Ladakh NIC portal.

Previous Academic Session Allocations

The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare had allocated Central Pool MBBS & BDS seats for the academic session 2025-26 to Ladakh on July 31, 2025. For that session, Ladakh also received seven MBBS seats and two BDS seats under the Central Pool, mirroring the current year’s allocation.

The colleges for the 2025-26 academic session were largely the same, including Lady Hardinge Medical College, LLRM Medical College, and Maulana Azad Medical College for MBBS, and K.G. Dental College and Government Dental College for BDS. This continuity in allocation numbers provides a stable framework for medical and dental education opportunities for students from Ladakh.
