NEET PG 2026 result out; MCC to conduct counselling for 50% AIQ seats

The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) released the NEET PG 2026 result on September 24, 2026. Following this, the Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) is set to conduct the online counselling process for admission to MD, MS, DNB, and other postgraduate medical programmes for qualified candidates.

This centralized counselling process, conducted by the MCC on its official portal, is crucial for thousands of candidates seeking postgraduate medical education across India. It will cover 50% of All India Quota (AIQ) postgraduate medical seats, as well as 100% of seats in deemed universities and specified central universities and institutions.

NEET PG 2026 Counselling Process and Schedule

The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) will oversee the online counselling for various postgraduate medical seats, including 50% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, 100% seats in deemed universities, and those in specified central universities and institutions. The Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) has been entrusted with the responsibility to hold online counselling for 50% All India Quota Post-Graduate Medical and Dental seats, in compliance with orders from the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

While the official notification for NEET PG 2026 counselling is yet to be released, the process is expected to commence in September 2026 or the third week of October 2026. The entire counselling process is anticipated to be completed by November. State counselling authorities will manage admissions for postgraduate medical seats under their respective state quotas.

Eligibility, Fees, and Reservation Policy

Candidates eligible for MCC counselling must have qualified the NEET PG 2026 examination, possess an MBBS degree from an NMC-recognised institution, and have completed their compulsory rotating internship by the notified date. Registration on the official MCC counselling portal is mandatory. The registration fee for AIQ counselling is ₹1,000 for UR/EWS categories and ₹500 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories. A security deposit of ₹25,000 for UR/EWS categories and ₹10,000 for SC/ST/OBC/PwD categories is also required.

The Central Government’s Reservation Policy for All-India Quota includes 27% for OBC, 15% for SC, 10% for EWS, 7.5% for ST, and 5% for PwD categories. Deemed university MD/MS seats are allotted through MCC counselling, with institutions setting their own fees, typically ranging from ₹10 lakh to ₹50 lakh per year.

Counselling Rounds and Required Documents

The NEET PG counselling process is structured into multiple rounds: Round 1, Round 2, Mop-Up Round, and Stray Vacancy Round. Fresh registration and choice locking are required in every round except the Stray Vacancy Round. Candidates can register for both AIQ and state counselling simultaneously, but simultaneous seat-blocking across both is prohibited. The NEET PG Seat Matrix 2026, listing all AIQ and DNB seats, will be published round-wise on mcc.nic.in.

For the counselling process, candidates will need to provide several documents. These include the NEET PG 2026 scorecard/rank details, NEET PG 2026 admit card, MBBS degree/provisional degree certificate, MBBS marksheets, internship completion certificate, permanent/provisional medical registration certificate, a valid government-issued photo ID, date of birth proof, recent passport-size photographs, and category/PwBD/NRI certificates if applicable.

1. Online registration on the official MCC counselling portal.
2. Payment of the prescribed registration fee.
3. Choice filling, where candidates select their preferred medical colleges and postgraduate courses.
4. Choice locking within the specified deadline.
5. Seat allotment based on merit and choices.
6. Document verification at the allotted institute.
7. Reporting to the allotted institute for admission.
