The initiative is part of the Viksit Bharat @2047 programme, designed to address national-scale problems by channeling the energy and spirit of service of India’s youth towards local community and citizen challenges. The extension provides additional time for many eligible participants, including individual innovators, students, startups, MSMEs, companies, social enterprises, and educational or research institutions, to submit their applications.

Challenge Structure and Participation

The Seva First Innovation Challenge 2026 is structured with two tracks: Track A focusing on Product or Technology, and Track B on Business Model & Governance. Participants can choose from three levels of participation: Level 1 for school students up to Class VI to XII, Level 2 for students of Industrial Training Institutes and Polytechnics, and Level 3 for undergraduate students and above. Participation is institution-led, requiring a nominated coordinator to register the institution and submit entries.

Applicants must complete Aadhaar verification before submitting their application, with the name in the form populated directly from Aadhaar. Edits are permitted until the submission deadline, after which applications become locked. A pitch presentation, following a specified six-slide template, is a mandatory document for submission. Daily orientation and query-resolution sessions are available from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM for applicants seeking assistance.

Thematic Focus Areas and Awards

The challenge identifies five thematic focus areas: Swachh & Sustainable Bharat, Samriddh Annadata, Swasth & Samavesh Bharat, Shikshit & Kaushal Bharat, and Surakshit Bharat. Innovations are invited across these themes, with substantial prizes allocated for the top three entries in each category.

Winners will receive not only monetary awards but also mentorship, incubation support, and assistance for adoption by government bodies, Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs), local bodies, and industry. The North East Seva First Innovation Challenge (NESFIC 2026) is also a national challenge, inviting applications from across India, with existing applications under the earlier Assam Startup Grant Call being aligned with Stream 2 of NESFIC 2026.
