RRB NTPC undergraduate recruitment opens October 15 for 1,688 posts

The Railway Recruitment Board (RRB) has issued a recruitment notification for 1,688 undergraduate-level posts under the Non-Technical Popular Categories (NTPC). The application window for these vacancies will open on October 15, 2026, and close on November 13, 2026, at 11:59 PM.

This recruitment drive, designated CEN 07/2026, aims to fill positions such as Trains Clerk, Commercial Cum Ticket Clerk, Accounts Clerk Cum Typist, and Junior Clerk Cum Typist across various railway zones and production units nationwide. The detailed notification for these undergraduate-level posts is scheduled for release on October 14, 2026, on the common website of all RRBs, rrb.indianrailways.gov.in, following a short notice published on September 21, 2026.

Eligibility and Application Process

Candidates who have passed Class 10 and Class 12 are eligible to apply for these permanent central government jobs. The age limit for applicants is set between 18 and 30 years as on January 1, 2027. Age relaxations are applicable for candidates belonging to SC/ST, OBC (Non-Creamy Layer), and PwBD categories, extending up to 5 to 15 years depending on the category.

Applications must be submitted online through the official website. The application fee for general category candidates is Rs 500, while reserved categories, including SC/ST, Ex-Servicemen, PwDs, Females, Transgender, Minorities, and Economically Backward Class, are required to pay Rs 250. A refund of Rs 400 for UR candidates and Rs 250 for reserved categories will be processed after they appear for the First Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT).

Selection Procedure and Remuneration

The selection process for these undergraduate-level posts involves multiple stages. It includes a First Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT), followed by a Second Stage Computer-Based Test (CBT), and finally, document verification. Candidates appointed through this recruitment process may be posted anywhere in India.

Selected candidates will receive salaries as per the 7th Central Pay Commission (CPC). Posts under Pay Level 2 will have a basic pay of Rs 19,900, while those under Pay Level 3 will receive a basic pay of Rs 21,700. The approximate in-hand salary for Level 2 posts is Rs 28,000–Rs 34,000 per month, and for Level 3 posts, it is Rs 32,000–Rs 38,000 per month.

Vacancy Distribution and Comparison

The total of 1,688 vacancies for undergraduate posts are distributed across various railway zones and production units. The Commercial cum Ticket Clerk position accounts for the highest number of vacancies at 700, followed by Junior Clerk cum Typist with 600 posts. Accounts Clerk cum Typist has 200 vacancies, and Trains Clerk has 188 vacancies.

This year’s undergraduate vacancies of 1,688 show a downward trend compared to previous years. In 2019, undergraduate posts had 10,603 vacancies, which decreased to 3,445 in 2024 and 3,058 in 2025. The total NTPC vacancies for 2026, including 3,477 graduate-level vacancies under CEN 06/2026, amount to 5,165.

Aadhaar Verification and Key Dates

Candidates are advised to verify their primary details using Aadhaar while filling out the online application form. For successful Aadhaar verification, the name and date of birth in Aadhaar should match the full name and date of birth mentioned in the Class 10 pass certificate. Applicants should also ensure their Aadhaar has been updated with their latest photograph and biometrics before proceeding with the online application.
