UPESSC principal admit card 2026 out: download hall ticket before 24 September exam

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), Prayagraj, has released the admit card and exam city slip for the Principal (Higher Education) recruitment examination. Candidates appearing for the examination, advertised under Advt. No. 02/2026, can download their hall tickets from the official UPESSC portal at upessc.up.gov.in or admitcards.upessc.org.

The written examination for these posts is scheduled for September 24, 2026. The recruitment drive aims to fill 111 Principal positions in higher education colleges across Uttar Pradesh. The admit card release date has been reported as September 14, 2026, by Sarkari Sewa, while Airgurukul and MySarkariNaukri indicate September 21, 2026.

UPESSC Principal Recruitment Process and Eligibility

The application window for the 111 Principal posts was open from July 21, 2026, to August 20, 2026. The last date for fee payment was also August 20, 2026, with a correction window available until August 23, 2026. The application fee for all categories, including General, OBC, EWS, SC, ST, and PH, was ₹3000, payable online through various digital payment methods.

Eligibility criteria for the Principal positions include a Master’s Degree with at least 55% marks, a Ph.D. Degree in the concerned/allied/relevant discipline, and a minimum of 15 years of teaching or research experience. The maximum age limit for applicants was 62 years as on July 01, 2026, based on what Sarkari Sewa, or June 01, 2026, as per Airgurukul. The selection process comprises a written examination, Viva-Voce/Interview, and Document Scrutiny.

Examination Pattern and Guidelines

The written examination consists of 120 objective-type questions, carrying a total of 360 marks. For each correct answer, 3 marks will be awarded, while 1 mark will be deducted for every wrong or multiple answer. Following the written examination, an interview round will be conducted for 40 marks. Candidates are advised to review their exam city details, which were made available on September 14, 2026.

Candidates must carry a printed copy of their admit card, a valid original photo ID proof, and two passport-size photographs to the examination center. Prohibited items in the exam hall include mobile phones, smartwatches, calculators, study material, bags, and any electronic gadgets. Adherence to these guidelines is mandatory for all examinees.

Background of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission

The Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC) was constituted under the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission Act, 2023, which was notified on August 21, 2023. The rules for the Commission were subsequently published on December 13, 2023. The Act defines ‘Teacher’ to include Principals, Vice-Principals, and Head Teachers, among others. The newly formed Commission is tasked with ensuring a transparent and merit-based selection process for various educational posts.

The Chairman of UPESSC stated, “After taking charge as the Chairman of the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission, my topmost priority is to ensure a fully transparent and merit-based selection process in line with the government’s policies, with zero tolerance without any compromise on integrity.” The Commission aims to strengthen technology-based processes to provide opportunities to eligible candidates. This recruitment follows other selections by the Commission, such as the UP PGT Admit Card 2026, released on May 6, 2026, for an exam held on May 9 and 10, 2026, for 624 vacancies across 17 centers in Uttar Pradesh.
