The decision to broaden the scope of the inquiry comes amid growing suspicions regarding potential document fraud across various reservation categories. The Chief Minister’s Office stated that the move aims to ensure transparency and accountability in the admission process for state medical colleges.

Expanded Scope of the Investigation

The expanded probe will now inspect and verify documents submitted across all reserved categories for state medical college admissions. Chief Minister Dhami stated, “The crime of securing admission through fake certificates is as serious as the offence of cheating in exams. As soon as the matter came to light, officials were instructed to conduct a transparent investigation and take action. Expanding the scope of the inquiry, certificates from all categories will now be examined. Strict action will be taken against anyone found guilty.”

If any certificate is found to be fake, it will be cancelled, and strict action will be taken against the individuals involved. So far, the certificates of eight candidates have been revoked, leading to the annulment of their admission processes. Investigators have also been directed to uncover how fake documents were issued and identify the perpetrators, with any government official or employee found complicit facing severe disciplinary and legal consequences.

The initial complaints that prompted the probe involved allegations that students used fraudulent permanent residence and freedom fighter dependent certificates during the state-level NEET-UG counselling. Medical Education Minister Subodh Uniyal had earlier directed the Dehradun district magistrate to conduct an inquiry into these complaints and submit a report within a week.

The Uttarakhand government plans to make document verification protocols significantly more stringent across the state to prevent future occurrences of such fraud. The state aims to open a medical college in every district to achieve self-reliance in healthcare and medical training, with new government medical colleges in Rudrapur and Pithoragarh expected to start operations soon.

NEET UG 2026 Counselling Details

Uttarakhand NEET PG Counselling 2026 is conducted by Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Uttarakhand Medical Education University (HNBUMU), Dehradun. Reservation applies only to state-quota seats in the centralised counselling run by HNBUMU, and only candidates who are domicile or permanent residents of Uttarakhand can claim a reserved category benefit. An Uttarakhand OBC certificate is valid for only three years from its date of issue.

The final reporting deadline for Round 2 of Uttarakhand’s NEET UG 2026 counselling was extended from September 18 to September 19, 2026. This extension applied to Freeze candidates who accept their current seat and do not wish to participate in further counselling rounds. Missing online document verification or advance tuition fee payment by the deadline results in automatic seat cancellation.

The registration fee for Uttarakhand NEET UG counselling is ₹6,500 (non-refundable). The security deposit for government colleges is ₹10,000, reduced to ₹5,000 for SC/ST/OBC candidates of Uttarakhand. For private medical and dental colleges, the security deposit is ₹1,00,000.

Uttarakhand has a total of nine medical colleges, comprising five government and four private institutions, offering 1,325 MBBS seats. Government medical colleges in Srinagar (Garhwal), Haldwani, Dehradun, Almora, Haridwar, and AIIMS Rishikesh jointly account for 750 MBBS seats and 238 postgraduate medical seats. Himalayan Institute of Medical Sciences and Shri Guru Ram Rai Institute of Medical and Health Sciences each offer 250 MBBS seats, while Graphic Era Institute of Medical Sciences and Gautam Buddha Medical College each offer 150 MBBS seats.
