GATE 2027 is being conducted jointly by the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) and various Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) on behalf of the National Coordination Board (NCB), Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education (MoE), Government of India. The application process for GATE 2027 has been updated to include live facial verification and mandatory DigiLocker integration for all Indian nationals, with scorecards issued as per the name fetched from DigiLocker.

Key Dates and Application Process

The GATE 2027 application form became available on 14 August 2026, following the release of the Information Brochure on 20 July 2026. The registration window officially opened on 2 September 2026. Candidates are advised to complete their registration by 27 September 2026 to avoid a late fee. An application correction window will be available from 14 October 2026 to 21 October 2026 for any necessary modifications.

The examination is scheduled to take place on 6, 7, 13, 14, 20, and 21 February 2027. The city allotment notification is expected on 4 January 2027, and the results for GATE 2027 are slated for announcement on 19 March 2027. The application fee is non-refundable under any circumstances.

Eligibility and Examination Structure

Candidates in their third year or higher of a four-year undergraduate degree, or those who have already completed a qualifying degree, are eligible to apply for GATE 2027. The examination will be a Computer-Based Test (CBT) with a duration of three hours. It will consist of 65 questions in total, comprising 10 General Aptitude questions and 55 subject-specific questions. Questions will carry either 1 mark or 2 marks.

For GATE 2027, a new Robotics & Automation (RA) paper has been introduced, expanding the total number of test papers to 30. The application fee is ₹1,000 per paper for Female, Scheduled Caste (SC), Scheduled Tribe (ST), and Persons with Disabilities (PwD) candidates. For all other candidates, including foreign nationals, the fee is ₹2,000 per paper. An additional late fee will apply for registrations submitted between 22 September 2026 and 30 September 2026.

Application Requirements

Applicants must ensure their photograph is in JPEG/JPG format, with a minimum resolution of 200×260 pixels and a maximum of 530×690 pixels, not exceeding 600 KB. The photograph should have a plain white background. The signature must also be in JPEG/JPG format, with a minimum resolution of 250×80 pixels and a maximum of 580×180 pixels, not exceeding 300 KB, and should be in black or dark blue ink on white paper.

Mandatory registration through DigiLocker for all Indian nationals means that the GATE 2027 scorecard will be issued as per the name fetched from the DigiLocker account. Candidates are advised to ensure their DigiLocker details are accurate and up-to-date. The official portal for GATE 2027 is gate2027.iitm.ac.in.
