VITEEE Slot Booking 2026 Process Ends: What’s Next for Students
The window for VITEEE 2026 Slot Booking officially closed on April 19 at 5:00 PM, marking the end of a critical phase for thousands of engineering aspirants. As the Online Test Booking System (OTBS) portal settles, students are now shifting their focus toward the final days of preparation and the administrative steps that follow.
If you have successfully secured your test date and time, here is exactly what you need to do next to ensure a smooth transition into the examination hall.
How To Download and Verify Your e-Admit Card?
The most immediate step after the booking window closes is obtaining your e-Admit Card. While the system generates a confirmation immediately after you pick a slot, the official download link typically remains active on the OTBS portal until your exam day. However, it is highly recommended to download it at least 48 hours before your test.
What to check on your Admit Card:
-
Personal Details: Ensure your name, application number, and photograph are crystal clear and match your ID proof.
-
Exam Schedule: Re-confirm your shift. Most days are divided into Shift 1 (9:30 AM – 12:00 PM), Shift 2 (12:30 PM – 3:00 PM), and Shift 3 (4:00 PM – 6:30 PM).
-
Venue Address: Many cities have multiple test centers. Verify the exact location and plan your travel to reach at least 2 hours early for mandatory biometric registration.
-
Discrepancies: If you find any errors in your name or photo, contact the VIT Admission Office immediately at
ugadmissions@vit.ac.in.
VITEEE 2026 Revised Exam Pattern and Marking Scheme
It is important to remember that for 2026, VIT has introduced a massive shift in its marking scheme. For the first time, negative marking is in effect, moving the total marks from 125 to 500. This change significantly impacts how you should approach the paper.
The New Marking Scheme:
-
Correct Answer: +4 Marks
-
Incorrect Answer: -1 Mark
-
Unattempted: 0 Marks
The exam remains a 2 hour and 30 minute Computer Based Test (CBT). With 125 total questions—comprising Mathematics/Biology (40), Physics (35), Chemistry (35), Aptitude (10), and English (5)—accuracy is now more important than speed. A high number of wrong guesses could significantly drop your rank compared to previous years when there was no penalty for incorrect answers.
VITEEE 2026 Important Dates and Timeline
With the OTBS process concluded, the countdown to the results and the subsequent admission process begins. Having a clear timeline helps in planning for secondary entrance exams or travel for counseling.
| Event | Date / Timeline |
| VITEEE 2026 Exam Window | April 28 – May 03, 2026 |
| Result Declaration | May 12, 2026 (Expected) |
| Phase 1 Counselling Starts | 3rd Week of May 2026 |
| Classes Commencement | Late July 2026 |
What Happens if You Missed the Slot Booking?
If you completed your application but failed to book a slot by the deadline, don’t panic. In such cases, the VIT system automatically assigns a slot based on the remaining seats available in your chosen test city.
However, you lose the privilege of choosing your preferred date or time. You must log in to the OTBS portal immediately to check which slot was assigned to you and download the admit card. Note that VIT does not allow any changes to these auto-allotted slots under any circumstances. If the portal shows “No slot booked,” keep checking, as the system takes about 24 hours to process auto-allotments after the deadline.
Important Note: At the exam center, you must undergo biometric authentication (fingerprint and photo capture). This data is stored and re-verified during the actual admission and hostel allotment to prevent any form of impersonation.
Final Week Preparation and Strategy
In these final days, your focus should shift from learning to “tuning.” Avoid starting new, complex topics that might cause last-minute anxiety.
-
Official Mock Tests: Use the official VITEEE mock link on the VIT website. It helps you get used to the calculator interface on the screen and the navigation between sections.
-
High-Yield Topics: Prioritize Calculus and Algebra in Mathematics, and Organic Chemistry, as these typically carry the most weight. In Physics, focus on Electrostatics and Current Electricity.
-
The “Easy Wins”: Do not ignore Aptitude (10 questions) and English (5 questions). These are often easier than the core subjects and can be the “rank-makers” in a competitive field where every mark counts due to the new negative marking system.
